Davie- [12/24, 8:05 PM] Davie Mambo: Thank God for me and other Parishioners for surviving in a car accident yesterday. Below is how it was posted on WhatsApp forum for priests. [12/24, 8:22 PM] Davie Mambo: Esteemed collaborators, be informed that Fr. Davie Mambo was involved in an accident in the morning hours of 24 December along Namalaka-Mangochi road. The vehicle he was driving developed break failure. While trying to avoid hitting another vehicle ahead of him, he swerved and landed into a ditch. It has been established tentatively that its only the fuel tank which has developed some leakage and some cracks on windscreen as major technical problems. Meanwhile, the vehicle was safely driven back to the parish. We glorify God for sparing his life and that of the parishioners with him in the car. Glory to God. The Crib at Namalaka Parish Let us pray for the speedy recovery from this traumatic experience. Fr. Davie is doing well but his truck is not. It was a miracle no one was injured. Thanks be to God!!! Old Testament CYRUS KING OF PERSIA 2 Chronicles 36: 22 Ezra 1: 11 When Jewish people say Next year in Jerusalem, they remember the return of the Jews to Jerusalem after the Babylonian exile. The Babylonian empire was followed by the Persian empire. King Cyrus of Persia was led by God to rebuild Jerusalem and restore the temple. The Jews were given permission to return to Jerusalem. Some returned. Others stayed where they were, helping their friends by giving them silver, gold, goods, and cattle. The only tribes that were still together from Israel s 12 sons were Judah and Benjamin. The other 10 tribes had been scattered after the Assyrian exile. Those left behind came to be called Samaritans. The family heads of Judah and Benjamin, along with priests and Levites, returned to Jerusalem. Their plan was to rebuild the Temple that had been destroyed by the Babylonians. New Testament LUKE S GOSPEL Luke 1: 1-11 St. Luke was not one of the original 12 disciples of Jesus. He was a physician who became a Christian and was a good friend of St. Paul, traveling with Paul on some of the missionary journeys. Luke wrote two books, The Gospel According to Luke, and The Acts of the Apostles. Both of them are dedicated to Theophilus. This word means God s friend. Was Theophilus a real person or was it a name for all of us who love God and want to know more about Jesus? The first person we meet is a priest named Zechariah. He and his wife Elizabeth were very old, and they had never been blessed with a child. One day when Zechariah was offering incense to the Lord, he was alone in the sanctuary while people were praying in other parts of the Temple. Suddenly an angel was standing beside him, just to the right of the incense altar! MY FAITH What is a Covenant? A covenant can be an agreement between two people, or between a ruler and his people, or between God and his people. God made a covenant with Abraham to make him a great nation, meaning that he would have many descendants, who would be a blessing to the world. God made other covenants with the Hebrew people. In these covenants God told the people that he would bless them. They were required to obey God and follow his commandments. 73 BIBLE BOOKS Genesis is the first book of the Bible. It is believing that how you live your faith in your councils, families, parishes and community has a ripple effect that changes the world. It is the council, the family and the parish that knows that everything they do must be based in surrendering prayer. It describes the imperfect family and council who deliberately chooses to live contrary to what seems like a Godless world and says, In our home, council and parish, we choose to live our faith. It is the family and council who prays together, goes to Mass weekly, frequents the Sacrament of Confession and (because they realize they are powerless without God), deliberately avoids that which pollutes their minds and hearts. It is the imperfect, humble and joy-filled family and council that rarely preaches the faith because they are too busy living it.
