"On behalf of the St. Brendan delegation and the Christians of St. Brendan parish, we wish to thank Fr. Davie, the Seminarian Amos, the leaders of the Pastoral executive and every member of the parish, especially the women who cooked and cleaned and looked after us! We have felt welcome and free wherever we went. As we celebrate our 3rd year as sisters and brothers in Christ, our hearts are warmed here in the "warm heart of Africa" by your faithfulness. When we met with the women's group, the youth group, the parish executives, the health clinic staff and the out churches, as well as visiting the sick, everyone we met shared their love and their lives with us. Though we have barriers of distance, language and culture we persevere in our desire to learn from one another and to further our faith in the belief that we are one body in the Lord, we are all the people of His Love. Let us seek each other in our God. Let us renew our Sister Parish relationship as equals who ALL have something of themselves to share, our God given talents and gifts. Our future looks bright as we expand the school feeding program to Lungwena, support the women's group in starting small business ventures, invite a new delegation from St. Joseph to visit us in 2019, promote further connections between persons of each parish using technologies available, such as what's app and committing to regular communications between parishes. 4 ANNOUNCEMENTS (Contact Andrea with questions or to help out.) Disciples Club (1st 5th) begins Wednesday September 26. Have you registered? Children ages 7 & and older who are not yet baptized, register with Andrea for RCIA adapted for children. Class meets every Saturday at 3:30pm in Lower Brendan House. Kids & Teens ages 6th grade and older who have not yet had their First Communion, register with Andrea for RCIA adapted for Teens. Class meets every Sunday at 3:30pm in Lower Brendan House. Old Testament THE KINGDOM BREAKS APART 1 Kings chapter 12 King Solomon had many talents. He writes in the book of Ecclesiastes that he had tried to learn everything under the sun. But he had all the problems that come from being too rich. When Solomon died, his son Rehoboam took over the kingship. Rehoboam did not ask the Lord s advice. Instead, he took the advice of his young friends. The tribes in the north were called Israel and the tribes in the south were called Judah. Jerusalem was located in Judah. Family rulers from Israel came to King Rehoboam and asked him to treat their people better than King Solomon had done. But Rehoboam said, My little finger is thicker than my father s body. (1 Kings 12: 10) That meant that he was going to use all his power against them. So Israel split off from Judah and crowned their own kings. New Testament THE KING ENTERS HIS CITY Mark 11: 1-11 Have you ever wondered why Jesus entered Jerusalem on a mule? Usually he walked into the city. We can find out by reading about the anointing of Solomon as king in Jerusalem. In 1 Kings 1: 38-40, Solomon is given his father David s mule to ride. The priest takes the horn of oil and anoints Solomon. Then the horn is blown and all the people shout, Long live King Solomon! The Bible says it was so loud that they split open the earth with their shouting. When Jesus entered Jerusalem on a mule, the people were reminded of the anointing of King Solomon. They knew that the great days of God s Kingdom had arrived. But they did not know that Jesus would first die on a cross. Volunteer with Children and Family Ministry Baptism We need people to make lunch for the Baptism Preparation Class, and we need more hosts and hostesses for the Baptism Masses. Little Disciples We need a total of 20 once-amonth Little Disciples volunteers (Little Disciples is ages 3-K, during the 5:00 pm and 10:00 am Masses. Disciples Club This group could use one more 3 rd grade catechist and one more 1 st grade catechist Wednesday evenings beginning Sept. 26. RCIA for Children Teacher assistant Saturdays 3:30 pm in Lower Brendan House. RCIA for Teens Teacher assistant Sundays 3:30pm in Lower Brendan House. Sacramental Preparation We would love to have a techie to help show the videos for our new curriculum. Nursery The nursery (ages 0-2) meets during all Sunday Masses, and needs one or two steady volunteers to assist the professional staff member. PAGE 4

BRENDAN'S LADIES BOOK CLUB This month's selection has been requested by many from our parish. It is different from anything we've read before. Stripped at the Intersection of Cancer, Culture and Christ by Heather King tells the author's story of facing breast cancer. Her medical and spiritual journey places Christ in the center of all her decisions and "how she learns, as we all must, that healing means so much more than simply getting well." Come discuss this amazing book with us Monday, in the Brendan House dining area, September 24th at 7pm. Questions? Call Berni at or Anneliese at LIFE CHAIN Life Chain is a peaceful and prayerful public witness of pro-life individuals standing to pray the rosary, pray for our nation, and pray for an end to abortion. We will meet near McMenamins on Sunday October 7 th at 1:30pm. We stand along Bothell Everett Hwy with pro life signs for 90 minutes. Please join us! We will provide the signs. ST. BRENDAN GARDENS The church grounds & gardens are looking better & better. Thank you so much for your help. The work that needs to be done still is not completed. The first change of this kind since 1971, the model more fully integrates Christ-centered family programs into daily council activities. It provides all Knights the opportunity to do what they do best: stand shoulder to shoulder as a force for good in their home, parish, community and the world. WHY WERE THESE CATEGORIES CHOSEN? They represent our main priorities as an Order: The primary goal is to strengthen our men and their families in the Catholic faith. We also emphasize the vital role that a devout and loyal family plays in modern society. Additionally, a critical part of our mission as Knights is to spread a spirit of charity and service throughout our community. Finally, both as Knights of Columbus and as followers of Christ, we have an obligation to be committed to the defense of life in all its stages and in every condition (St. John Paul II). OUR UP COMING EVENTS: Knights are looking at updating the Knights of Columbus announcement board and the pictures of Active Military and Active Reserve outside the Father McGill Chapel By Veteran s Day we would like to know if current pictures on the board are still serving our country and would like to collect NEW pictures of Current men and women that are protecting Our Great Country. I feel great and the Doctor said he is pretty sure that I will be cancer free.
