Saulos, the pastor of our Sister Parish St Joseph's Namalaka MALAWI. He was involved in an incident the week before Easter and continues to struggle with recovery after 2 surgeries. He has little to no memory of the event so it remains a mystery what actually happened. He has a badly fractured upper left arm. We pray for healing and comfort and for the parish community that misses him. In other news... Malawi often times experiences blackouts. As a British colony the electrical gris was built dependent on hydroelectric power. At that time there were 3 million people, now there are 20 and more modern buildings and machines. Because of low water levels on Lake Malawi ( where Namalaka is) and reduced flows on the Shire River there is inadequate power generated. As a result, the country has a program called load shedding where there are rolling blackouts. Areas may receive 25 hours of blackout and then 8 hours of electricity. For those with power such as cities and hopefully soon, Fr. Saulos Rectory, the affects are economic and social. Phones cannot be charged, computers used, factories and stores shut, food spoils, and banking stalled. With the rainy season having come the situation should be improving. This news reported at the African connections Conference on Learn more at the St. Bridget, Seattle website. They have had a sister parish in Namitembo Malawi for 20 years. Hannah was a woman who was very sad because she had not been able to have a child. Every year she and her husband would go up to Shiloh to offer sacrifices to the Lord. Her husband Elkanah had two wives, which was not unusual in Old Testament times. The second wife had children and she made poor Hannah s life miserable. Finally one day at Shiloh Hannah decided to do something about her situation. She decided to pray. Hannah prayed for such a long time that the priest Eli was worried about her. She poured out her heart to Eli and said that she very much wanted a child. Eli promised her that God would grant her prayer. And sure enough, by the same time the next year Hannah came to Shiloh with a bouncing baby boy named Samuel. NEW TESTAMENT THE MIRACLE THE TOWN DIDN T WANT Mark 5: 1-20 Jesus was not shy about making a person well. He traveled to the region of the Gadarenes near the Galilean Sea. Once Jesus arrived, a man came rushing up to him, bowing down to worship. This man had hundreds of demons (verse 9) who had taken over his body. While he was begging for help, the demons started shouting at Jesus. They said Why meddle with [us], Jesus, Son of God Most High? The demons knew who Jesus was. As we know, even hundreds of demons are no match for the Lord. He cast them out of the man and they entered a herd of pigs who then started running around like crazy pigs. People asked Jesus to leave, not caring about the man who was now completely healed. He wanted to go with Jesus. But Jesus told him to stay and praise God, and to share the Good News. LEARNING ABOUT OUR FAITH Personal and Social Sin There are some kinds of sin that a person commits on their own. We know about these sins from the 10 Commandments. If we do not love God, do not respect the Lord s name or the Lord s day, mistreat the people in our lives, or become jealous of others, we are committing personal sin. Social sins are the same kind of sins, but committed by groups of people. As you grow in the presence of the Lord, make sure that you are careful not to join groups of people who want to disrespect the Lord or do harm to other people. Alphabet Soup G is for Galilee, the huge lake where Jesus called his first disciples. It was there that he walked on water and there that he fed 5,000 people. PAGE 4

Contact: Sam or Melinda Affronte (425) Ron Fernandes (425) seattlecursillo.org SPIRITUAL ADOPTION PROGRAM UPDATE In January many of our parishioners spiritually adopted newly conceived babies, making a commitment to pray daily as they grow and develop. The baby now sleeps and awakens. Fingernails and toenails form and he now has his own unique set of fingerprints. Sensitive to touch, he will lightly grasp an object placed in the palm of his hand. He breathes amniotic fluid to help develop and strengthen the respiratory system, but he gets the oxygen he needs through the umbilical cord. He can now squint, swallow and move his tongue. In fact, early this month-around week nine, he began to suck his thumb. Please check out the kiosk in the Narthex for the beautiful picture of our developing baby. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made, your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
