JOSEPH, NAMALAKA Pastor Christopher Chatsogola said that God made our meeting and relationship possible that we might learn from each other. Our sister Parish is located in the village of Namalaka on the Southeast shore of beautiful Lake Malawi in the largest and most remote portion of the diocese. The dirt road is rough and bumpy and very hard on the cars. It takes 1 1/2 hour to drive there from the Bishops house in Mangochi, the main town. When our delegation arrived we were greeted by women singing and dancing. The area consist of 95% Muslim people. The land for the church and neighboring school was obtained from the village headmaster or chief. The church itself is small, maybe seating 150. The rectory is in a state of disrepair with a generator for limited power. Cooking is done outdoors over a a fire with wood or charcoal. There are numerous outstations or smaller churches where Fr. Chris travels in a circuit to bring Mass usually monthly. Challenges include having reliable transportation for long distances due to the settlement patterns. During the rainy season areas become inaccessible due to bridges being washed out. Parishioners or Christians as they are called number 4,000. PAGE 3

What sound were they waiting for after the 7th time around? (Read Joshua 6: 5) 4. In Revelation John has a vision of 7 churches (Rev 1:4) and 7 seals (Rev 8:1). Can you find other references to 7 in these early chapters? OLD TESTAMENT FRIEND JACOB Jacob is one of the three Patriarchs of the Bible. The first one is Jacob s grandfather Abraham. The 2nd one is his father Isaac. Jacob and Esau were twins. It happens often in the Bible that the 2nd son in the family has an interesting story. You can read all about Jacob and his family in Genesis. In fact, most of Genesis is all about Jacob s family. Jacob didn t wait for good things to come his way. He stole Esau s birthright and his blessing, then ran far away so that Esau wouldn t punish him. He started by going to his Uncle Laban s house. Laban was his mother s brother. While there he married and had many children. During his travels two special things happened to Jacob. Once he struggled with an angel and his name was changed to Israel, the one who struggles with God. Another time angels visited Jacob as he slept, going up and down a ladder to heaven. This collection of short stores is about conflicts between a parish priest and his battles with the local communist mayor in a small town in Italy after World War II. PAGE 5 KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS CORNER The highest award for 4th Degree Knights of Columbus is To Be a Patriot. Master Eugene Daly made the Official Presentation to Our Lady of the Americas Bothell at the 5:00 pm Mass at St. Brendan on November 7. Established in 1985, the To Be a Patriot award annually recognizes the three best Patriotic Programs conducted by Four Degree Assemblies each Fraternal Year. Entries are judged at the District, Province and International Level. One of the To Be A Patriot Award winners is: Our Lady of the Americas Assembly 3123, Bothell, WA-Support: Heartbeat Serving Wounded Warriors. Each year the Knights at St. Brendan hold a Memorial Mass for our deceased brothers and deceased spouses. This year s memorial Mass will be on Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 7:00 pm in the St. Brendan Chapel. Because Nov. 11 is Veteran s Day, the Knights are also dedicating the Mass to our Veteran s. Please come and pray with us. The November Pancake Breakfast will be moved to Sunday, Nov. 22nd so that everyone can enjoy the St. Brendan Crafts Fair on the 14th and 15.

In addition to 110 craft vendor booths throughout our 2-story building, we have a holiday gift raffle, refreshments, baked goods and a guest appearance by Santa! Our craft vendors were juried and selected from approximately 400 applications. All crafts sold by the craft vendors are handcrafted. Please support St. Brendan School in this annual fundraiser. Faithful stewards give all that is asked and trust the Lord to be faithful to His promises.
