It comprises of nine members as follows: Mr. Master Kamwendo-Chairperson; Mrs. Nsapato, Vice Chairperson; Mr. John Phiri, Secretary; Mr. John Mmera, Vice Secretary; Mr. Raphael Kathumba. Treasure Committee members: Zecharia Masenyenda, Mrs. Thole, Mr. Lihuluwa, Mrs. Tembo. The Committee agrees to meet twice a month to review the operations of the program. Following the instructions from my Bishop, the program will have a separate account for easy monitoring and auditing. 4 ANNOUNCEMENTS The November schedule for Disciples Club has changed. We will all go to the Holy Day of Obligation All Saints Day Mass at 7:00 pm, November 1. Do not come at 6:00 pm. Vigil Mass in Spanish 7:00 pm, October 31 Classes November 8, 15, 29 (no 5th Wednesday potluck) Thank you to Alexis for her work in the nursery. Her last day is October 29. Applications are being accepted for a new nursery worker. Contact Andrea. OLD TESTAMENT Crossing the Red Sea Exodus 14: 1 15: 21 Have you ever made a decision but then you changed your mind? That s just what Pharaoh did. At first he was really glad that the Israelites (descendants of Jacob) were leaving Egypt, especially after the many plagues that Moses had prayed for. However, after the Israelites were really gone, Pharaoh remembered all the work they did as slaves. Who would build the next pyramid? So he hitched his chariot up to his horse, called out his army, and they all got their chariots ready. At this moment, God gave the Israelites an amazing miracle. He parted the waters so that they could pass right through the Red Sea on dry land. When the Egyptian army followed them, the waters covered them up. NEW TESTAMENT James and John Learn a Lesson Matthew 20: For three years the disciples of Jesus followed him up and down the countryside, in and out of villages, and even as far as Jerusalem. Jesus covered a lot of miles while teaching them about the Kingdom of God a Kingdom that would not belong to the powerful and important but to the simple and poor. He also told them that he was going to be killed in Jerusalem, and on the third day he would rise again. They couldn t understand. The mother of James and John asked Jesus to let her two sons rule with him, one on the left and one on the right. Jesus explained again that he was going to suffer. It was only after Jesus rose from the dead that they finally understood. Following Jesus means being a servant of the poor. LEARNING ABOUT OUR FAITH The Blessed Trinity St. Patrick of Ireland used a three-leaf clover to explain the mystery of the Trinity to new Christians. He showed that all 3 leaves, while separate, were part of ONE beautiful clover. Some people use a triangle to illustrate the trinity. Even though it has 3 sides and 3 angles, it s still ONE triangle. Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are ONE God in THREE Persons. ALPHABET SOUP FOR STUDENTS O OBADIAH is a very short book in the Old Testament, warning the people who tried to take over Jerusalem. ORPAH was one of Naomi's 2 daughters in law. Ruth decided to stay with Naomi. Orpah went back home. PAGE 4

The tentative plan is to attend a movie and have lunch locally.depending on what movie will be showing at that time. KNIGHT OF COLUMBUS CORNER Winter Clothing Drive in Full Gear! Thank you to all our fellow parishioners who have already donated to our Winter Clothing Drive. Our bin in the Narthex is labeled Coats for Vets, but any clothing for men, women or children will be delivered by the Knights of Columbus to shelters that insure people in need receive your donations. Take inventory of what you are not using and pack it up! From coats, shirts and pants, to socks and underwear, it is all needed and your donation is appreciated! On Saturday, November 11, after the 5:00 pm Mass, we will be welcoming our new parishioners with a delicious Italian dinner. BRENDAN SCHOOL WORKS! On Saturday, November 4, St. Brendan School students and their families will be participating in the 3rd Annual Cemetery Clean-up at Holyrood Cemetery. Participants will be practicing their Corporal Work of Mercy (Bury the Dead) by raking leaves to help maintain the grounds at Holyrood. Participants will also perform a Spiritual Work of Mercy by walking through the cemetery, stopping at the graves of family, friends and parishioners, to pray for them during the octave of All Souls Day. The event will end in the Holyrood Chapel where we will pray a rosary for the holy souls in purgatory. If you would like us to pray for someone buried at Holyrood, please provide their full name to Eileen Warner at enewarner@live.com or Parishioners are welcome to join us! If you would like to attend, please RSVP to Eileen and arrive at the cemetery by 12:30 pm on November 4. ST. BRENDAN SCHOOL HOLIDAY CRAFT FAIR JUST 2 WEEKS AWAY Please plan to attend and support our school in our annual fundraising event: Saturday, November 11, 9:00 am 5:00 pm Sunday, November 12, Noon 4:00 pm Better than ever, this year s fair features the work of over 100 returning and new craft vendors selected from a juried applicant pool of over 400, the Holiday Gift Raffle, refreshments, baked goods at our bake sale table and a special guest appearance by Santa! That perfect holiday gift is waiting for you at the St. Brendan Holiday Craft Fair! CALLING ALL BAKERS! We know there are wonderful bakers in our parish community! St. Brendan Catholic School is looking for your help. We are in need of home-baked goodies to sell at the bake sale table during the Annual Holiday Craft Fair on November 11/12. All proceeds will benefit the children at your parish school. Your baked items should be wrapped in clear cellophane and labeled clearly. Creative and beautifully wrapped items are big sellers. Please indicate on your baked item if it contains any nut products. We will not be able to accept items that require refrigeration or are store bought. Thank you for your donation. ST. BRENDAN GARDENS Thank you to all who came to work on the parish ground during our October work party. The grounds sure are improving in their appearance, aren t they? Thanks to those who provided the delicious lunch for the workers. It was much appreciated and savored. Our big pre-holiday clean-up event will be on Saturday morning, November 18. Hopefully, mother nature will have cooperated by then and caused all the leaves to drop for us to pick up.
