Monday the 13th, Fr. Wichert, Marie and Dale began the long journey home. We had a busy but amazing week! Last Monday we met with the Women's group and were able to fund them to start a few small businesses! We also met with the youth and discussed our two programs. Then we visited the health center in the afternoon. Tuesday we ended our time in Namalaka by visiting the sick in the village in the morning. It was a moving experience for all of us. Wednesday was a day for relaxing. We went to visit monkey's in the wild and got to feed them! We also visited a diocesan college that reopened a few weeks ago. We also did some souvenir shopping. Thursday we visited Liwonde National Park and saw hippos, elephants, crocodiles and all the other animals! Friday we saw Mua, which is a cultural center that explains how Christianity came to Malawi. Saturday we attended Mass where two sisters celebrated their final vows. We then returned to Namalaka for our farewell Mass on Sunday. The Mass was an emotional experience. We received a beautiful gift from the parish. We also signed the sister parish agreement for another 3 years. During his young life at the court, he would often play the harp for the king to help him through his times of sadness. But he had to be very careful because he never knew when Saul would change his mood. Jonathan, Saul s son, was a good friend of David. He tried to talk to his father about David, but had no luck. One day David stayed away from an important feast. Jonathan saw David out in the field and shot some arrows far away. That was the signal that David should take himself far away from the king, at least for a while. New Testament JESUS TELLS ABOUT HIS DEATH Mark 9: Only after Jesus was raised from the dead did his disciples remember the many times he had predicted what was going to happen to him. Jesus and his disciples began a journey through the region of Galilee. Galilee is the area around the inland sea of Galilee and includes villages which are famous to us because of the New Testament stories Capernaum, Nazareth, Cana, Magdala, Chorazin, Bethsaida. Jesus told his disciples on this trip that he would be put to death once he reached Jerusalem. They couldn t stop thinking that he would be crowned as King, and fought among themselves about who would be most important. Jesus told them, If anyone wishes to be first, he must remain the last one of all and the servant of all. LEARNING ABOUT OUR FAITH The Church in God s Plan of Salvation We believe that God has a plan for all people that he has been working out for many generations. The Church is a grand part of this wonderful plan. Like the Hebrew people who descended from Abraham s family, we have been called to become a blessing to the world. We are a blessing when we follow Jesus by worshiping God in love and peace, taking care of the poor and homeless, and bringing peace and kindness to those around us. We've selected two small but powerful books. The first is the classic Gift From the Sea by Anne Morrow Lindbergh and the second written by John William Wennberg, The Empty Chair - How God Came to Find Me. Many of you may remember John as he was a parishioner here for many years. We have invited John to join us for our August meeting to share his story and perhaps autograph some books. YOUTH MINISTER St. Brendan Catholic Church in Bothell, WA seeks a faith-filled and creative self-starter with strong interpersonal and organizational skills and a love for working with youth to evangelize students in Junior High and High School, inviting them into a relationship with Christ and the Church.
