Your child MUST be in Disciples Club OR St. Brendan Catholic School last year and this year in order to participate. Dec 21 6:30 pm Posadas & Pastorela. All are invited to participate in this annual event. It is a play about Mary and Joseph looking for shelter, followed by the adoration of the angels, shepherds, and kings. Rehearsals: 1:30 pm on December 2, 9, and 16. Vacation Bible Camp Dates Monday July 8-Friday July 12. The theme this year is ATHENS. Some children who are now teen helpers will remember this from Old Testament BACK TO LIFE! 2 Kings 4: 8-37 Elisha came to a village called Shunem. He had no home of his own there, so a woman who had a large house decided with her husband that they would create a room for the prophet. Whenever he visited Shunem, he stayed with them in that room. Elisha had a servant named Gehazi. Between them, they learned that the woman was very sad because she did not have a child. Elisha received a message from God that this woman would have a child. A year later she presented a fine baby boy. Years later the little boy suddenly developed a headache which led to his death. The mother saddled a donkey and rode with her servants to find Elisha. The prophet had faith that God would restore the child to its mother. And that is exactly what God did. New Testament TWO KINDS OF PREPARATION Mark 14: One of the things we learn about the earthly life of Jesus, is that the love and goodness that Jesus shows to the world is shadowed by terrible things that we don t understand. Many times in the Bible we will read a beautiful passage which is side by side with a story of hurt and harm. Jesus sent two disciples into Jerusalem to prepare for the Passover. They would find a man carrying a water jar. This man would show them an upstairs room that was ready for the Passover supper. At the same time, Judas Iscariot was making preparations of his own. He went to the chief priests and arranged that they would give him money to hand Jesus over to them. Jesus knew who it was. MY FAITH Symbols and Sacramentals Catholics are people who care for the beautiful objects that help us worship God. Besides the church building, the altar (the table or the cross), the tabernacle, and the chrism oil, there are 4 more objects in a Catholic church that remind us of our Christian life. BISHOP S CHAIR is where the Bishop sits when he visits. We show that we are in unity with the Church. LECTERN is where scripture is proclaimed. BAPTISTRY is where children and adults are welcomed into the faith. THRESHOLD is the entrance, a symbol of welcome to all. PAGE 4

These books contain spiritual reflections based on the Infancy Narrative of Matthew and will help to enhance your Advent experience. There is a donation of one dollar. This beautiful book uses art, poetry, and spiritual reflections to help us usher in the peace desired as we go thru the sometimes chaotic seasons ahead. Lori: This month, recalling that we do not know the day or the hour, I challenge you to go confession, and make a commitment to go monthly thereafter as a means of maintaining vigilant care over your soul. SERVING OUR NEIGHBORS St. Brendan Parish, as a participating member of the Bothell-Kenmore Interfaith Group, is extending the SOS Thursday meal on November 29 th to serve 30+ people at the November Winter Shelter at Kenmore s Northlake Lutheran Church. We are in need of volunteers to help serve this meal. We have funded a school lunch program for nearly 2 years that has provided for roughly 2000 students at one of the schools in one of the parish villages, and continue to do so. We helped in the final phase of the completion of the new rectory that was able to accommodate us on our visit last summer (details such as curtains). We paid to have electricity brought to the village that is now lightning the rectory and may giver power to New maize mill in the future. We have brought the delegation from MALAWI to visit us in 2016 and will host another group to visit us in fall of We aided the former pastor Fr. Saulos in repairing his car and for medical help after his accident. We left money with the women's groups to start small business ventures to help feed there families and send their children to school. We left scholarship funds to aid students in attending secondary school. And we left funds with new pastor Fr. Davie that he may discern how to use in running the parish. We continue to pray for one another and strive to learn from each other. Questions? Contact Marie Hedden at LIFE, PEACE AND JUSTICE COMMITTEE Last Sunday, November 11 th, the Universal Church celebrated the feast day of St. Martin of Tours. St. Martin is honored and remembered as the patron saint of conscientious objectors. After his conversion, but still in the Roman army, history says that he told his commanding officer, I am (now) a soldier of Christ. I am not allowed to fight. Tradition has it that while under arrest he volunteered to go into battle unarmed. Miraculously, the very next day the enemy sued for peace and Martin s life was spared. A NOTE ON FR. ROGER O BRIEN Fr. Roger had right hip surgery at Swedish Hospital, Seattle, November 6, and will have a few weeks of rehabilitation at a skilled nursing facility. He expects to be home by late November. He thanks you for your ongoing concern and prayers. If you wish further information on his progress or have questions, please phone Beth Eagan, GIVING TREE St. Brendan Parish puts on a large giving tree program every year, it supports multiple organizations in the community. Many organizations rely on our support to sustain them through the entire year. The trees will be in the lobby from November 14 till the noon mass on December 16th. Please take a tag and help someone in need. Please return your tagged items by 10am on December 16th. Giving Tree will also be collecting new or gently used blankets, as well as new toys and other new items that could be used as gifts for teens. Noel House in downtown Seattle has a desperate need for blankets and have asked if we could help. They have also requested laundry detergent. These items will be used in Sibling House and Mathew House's Christmas Store. Ways to volunteer with giving g tree: Come to the tag making tree set up event in the Narthex on November 14th, 2:30 to 5pm; come to distribution day and help sort December 16th, after 10 am mass till finished; volunteer as a driver. We need several drivers to deliver items to the different agencies we support. St. Brendan Catholic School seeks an Extended Care Aide for supervision of our after-school preschool/prek program. The position will be Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 3pm-5pm. On Wednesday the position would be 2pm-5pm. Additional hours can be offered mornings 7:00am-9:00am if desired by applicant. Competitive hourly pay is provided based on experience. This position totals hours/week and is non-benefitted. St. Brendan has a vibrant and growing early childhood program with an engaged and supportive parent community. Our Preschool/PreK extended care is located in a newly renovated classroom with active board technology, developmentally appropriate and engaging activities, and easy access to our playground. The preschool/prek extended care aide will work in collaboration with our dynamic, fun, and engaging early childhood team. St. Brendan Catholic School also has an opening for a librarian and a technology teacher for grades K-5.
