1 MINISTRY OF THE SAINTS THIS WEEK - August 31, 2014 WELCOME VISITORS. If you have come as a stranger, may you depart as a friend. If you come with heavy burdens, may you leave knowing Jesus is supporting you. If you have come in joy, may you leave celebrating God s love for you through Jesus Christ, the Risen Son. Please do us the favor of signing our guest book, so that we may respond to your being with us. Please join us after worship for fellowship. NURSERY IS PROVIDED FOR THE 8:30 & 11:00 AM WORSHIP AND THE EDUCATION HOUR. Parents are encouraged to attend worship services with their children. This begins the good habit from an early age of worshiping with others. However, if you feel your child's behavior may be distracting to you or others who are worshiping, please feel free to speak with an usher for guidance to the staffed nursery. FLOWERS ON THE ALTAR are given in honor of Art & Jo Ann Lohsen s 50th wedding anniversary. ADULT FAITH FORMATION TRACK 1: Will meet today. 4 Ready! Share! Learn! Welcome back All Saints Lutheran Church Youth! We're excited to start another year of the Family Faith Formation Hour each Sunday at 9:45 am. All children ages 3 through 12th grade, their parents, and other family and friends are invited to join us for exciting opportunities to share God s LOVE. Our first gathering is planned for NEXT SUNDAY September 7 with a brief opening followed by participation in God's Work Our Hands activities. This program encourages our congregation, including our youth, in helping others with various service projects. Our youngest group will be making Jared Boxes that will be distributed to ill children at Anne Arundel Medical Center. Please bring any NEW small toys, games, stickers, crayons etc. that can be placed in the boxes we'll provide. Please do not include any food items or candy. We'll have some content for the boxes on hand as well. For more information on ideas to include in your Jared Box check out September 14 we will start with our "regular" rotation of lessons and music. Any youth with musical abilities or interest please let Kim Watson or Karen Lee Banks know if you want to contribute your music abilities to our time together. It s a great way to get some practice and we love the enthusiasm it brings to our opening. Share your knowledge and experience with our new quarterly family and friends faith experiences. Each quarter we ll follow the Church calendar and gather all ages for activities that allow the entire congregation to actively participate in celebration of the season. These events will be opportunities to enjoy cross-generational faith education. We have so much to learn from each other and what better way to share your knowledge (and maybe learn something new yourself) than with our youth! Please consider joining us either a participant, a co-leader of a class, a substitute, a helper, a snack provider, a musician, or even a story-teller. Our kids deserve to benefit from all of the gifts and talents that this congregation has. Contact Kim Watson (mydearwatsons@comcast.net) if you have further questions or would like to serve in some capacity. Come share your knowledge and God s Love. Holy Communion Instruction Are you interested in knowing what Lutherans believe about Holy Communion? Do you feel that your child is ready to participate in Holy Communion? Now is the time to talk with Pastor Gary about Holy Communion instruction. Use & Means of Grace The instruction will include conversation, an age -appropriate video, Bible stories, and work to do as a family at home. The group will meet on Sunday mornings at 9:45am on September 21, 28, October 5, 12. The celebrations of participating fully in God s Holy Meal will happen on Sunday, October 12 at the 11:00am worship service. Elijah s Bowl All Saints has been asked to provide the lunch for Elijah s Bowl on Saturday, September 13 th. This monthly event is always held at Grace Lutheran Church, but lunches are provided by various congregations and are served to all homeless persons able to attend. We will be serving chili, corn bread, rolls, tossed salad, cookies & brownies. We will also need to provide cold drinks and some bottles of salad dressing. Anyone who would like to help serve would be most welcome. Lunch is served Food items should be delivered by 11:30 am. If you are able to contribute any of the above, please contact Liz Muller ( ) / eamuller@verizon.net or Linda Baine ( ) /davlininc@comcast.net.
