First up is 4 weeks of watching Kathleen Norris talk about "Embracing a Life of Meaning" with discussion to follow, beginningg September 30 th. This will be followed, on October 28 th, by Dr. Bill Stancil taking us From Corinth to Kansas City. The church in Corinth, Greece was a diverse assortment of Jews and Gentiles, rich and poor, educated and unlettered. Unable to forge unity out of such diversity, the church was divided over numerous issues. Many of their concerns are as relevant to the church in Kansas City as they were to the church in Corinth. Bill's study will explore four of those issues. Blessing of the Animals Saturday, October 3 rd 9 am at English Landing Park. Meet along the river near the dog park (Far west end) Outreach for October. The Outreach October is the Northland Infant Clothing Center (NICC). This is Redeemer's OWN Outreach and it is growing. In recent months, the number of people in the community visiting the clothing center has grown, and continues to grow. As a result, we are in need of funds and inventory (especially diapers, wipes, and boy s pants- size 5T). NICC is the Church of the Redeemer s " personal outreach. We have embraced it as our own. Located in our House of Prayer, we help to provide clothing and supplies to our community s youngest in need. We need donations, volunteers, and prayers. See the center's web page at

2 Annual Redeemer Craft Sale ECW presents the 2015 Redeemer Craft Sale on October 24 th from 9 am to 4 pm and October 25 th - before, between and after services. There is plenty of time to register if you want to be a vendor. There will be plenty of different craft items for sale. Come and buy your Christmas presents. What is Rev. Elisabeth Up to These Days? Q: Rev. Elisabeth, what have been your time investment priorities since you arrived mid-july? A: I have focused my attention on 4 areas: 1) getting to know the people and ministries of Church of the Redeemer, 2) making connections with local clergy and nonprofit organizations from nearby churches of other denominations, 3) exploring potential ministry opportunities at Park University, and 4) discerning areas of expanded ministry impact at Church of the Redeemer [prayer team at NICC, welcome message to visitors on Sunday mornings, alternate outreach models, etc.]. Q: What has been your exploration process at Park University? A: These are some of the avenues I have investigated to determine whether Park University is ultimately a ministry match for us (I don t know the answer to this yet!): Studied the university website to learn their history and values. Met onsite with the Student Engagement Coordinator and Residence Life Director to learn the university s student composition, strengths, needs, etc. Facilitated a homemade cookie and note-writing extravaganza for new students (Yay, Church of the Redeemer!) Initiated collaboration with Pastor Andrews at Parkville Presbyterian Church on their weekly Pizza and Pop Theology event and an upcoming international students welcome dinner (more info to come, hopefully, as these may be opportunities for parishwide involvement). Joined the university s international book reading club. Established communication with the 5 students who gave us their contact info at the Student Activities Fair (limited response from the students) Spoke with several leaders of the Christian student campus organization called Revive and extended our offer to come alongside them as they see fit. They do not formally partner with churches but occasionally invite clergy as guest speakers. Gave our contact info to the International Students Inc. representative for Park University to learn whether we might become a Friendship Partner for international students and await her response. Registered us with the Parkville Chamber of Commerce so that we can announce upcoming events. Q: Anything else on your mind? A: Yes, always! I am excited by the prospect of some family ministry opportunities at Church of the Redeemer I look forward to discovering together ways for our church to meaningfully impact our wider community by applying community development principles. I am blessed by Bishop Field (diocese of West MO) and Bishop Miller s (diocese of Milwaukee, WI) decision that I be ordained at Church of the Redeemer this Winter and anticipate sharing that joy with you, who have welcomed me so lovingly.

3 Stephen Ministry Update Due to a very limited response from the parish, we have decidedd NOT to reactivate Stephen Ministry by training new ministers at this time. Several existing ministers will continue to provide care as in the past. Please communicate pastoral care needs including but not limited to hospitalizations & illness to the churchh office. Also, remember these services: Baptism Resources We have some new infant/young children baptism resources at Church of the Redeemer for parents and godparents. Please contact Rev. Elisabeth at the church office to learn more. Prayer chain (Contact Patti Clark, Mary Eick, or Lynda Pelfrey) Prayers of the People on Sunday mornings (Contact Kasi in the church office) Care team meals (for those who are homebound by illness or accident; contact Susan George) Eucharisticc lay ministers (provide communion to those who are homebound by illness or accident; contact Nina Sinclair) ) Sunday morning intercessory prayers during Eucharist (Find the intercessors near the baptismal font.) Memorial Garden Update We are continuing to make progress it just takes time! One step hinges on another and we must be careful to get the necessary work done in the correct order. The memorial plaques have been made by Eligius Bronze and then sent to Van Liew s where they will be inserted in benches that are in the process of being made specifically for Redeemer. The anticipated delivery date for the benches is late October. We have received proposals from several landscape centers and expect to have the landscape work begin soon after the benches have been installed. If all goes as planned, the Memorial Garden will be complete in November. Redeemer Gardens Workday for Redeemer Gardens We will work in the church gardens every Tuesday morning from 8:00-9:30 through the month of October, weather permitting. There is a lot of weeding to be done and given that Autumn is here, we need to begin preparing our gardens for winter. Any and all help will be welcome. No talent required just willing hands and a desire to help keep the church gardens beautiful. Be sure to bring your gloves and favorite garden tools. Pleasee notify Jeannie Carlile with questions.

4 Youth Group - What is coming this October! In October we have some fun and exciting things happening with Youth Group. On October 17th we will be holding a Movie Night Lock-in at Redeemer. Youth 6th-12th are invited to attend, and are encouraged to bring a friend or five! The kids will need to bring sleeping bags and pillows, cloths to change in to, and any toiletry items they may need. We will all gather at the Church at 7pm. Snacks will be provided the night of the Movie and breakfast willl be provided Saturday morning. More to follow on what you can do to help! Corn Maze Fun!!!!! On October 23rd we will be joining the North Network for a fun filled night at the Liberty Corn Maze! Invite your friends...and tell them how to register online, too! Meet at Churchh of the Good Shepherd at 6:30 PM on Friday, October 23. Eat dinner before you come! Transportation to the corn maze will be provided. Following the Corn Maze we'll head back to Good Shepherd for a lock-in. The lock-in ends at 8:30 AM! The cost is $5 to attend. Please make sure that you grab a registration form offf the Youth Group bulletin board in the narthex and return it there or place it in Joe Pierjok s hands! Our November Youth Group date will be November 1 st in the House of Prayer following the 10:30 service. Lunch will be provided. Message from the Youth Pastor Hello one and all! It is a great pleasure to once again be in the full swing of alll things youth related. I look forward to a very successful and fun year of Youth Group. This year is looking to be a very big year for some exciting things coming our way and together we will soar to new heights! It is my prayer that we will have a fun, engaging, Christ filled semester. 5 Food Pantry Sunday As you know the first Sunday of the Month is Food Pantry Sunday. We are asked to fill the Green Bags with nonperishable food and personal hygiene items and they are delivered to the South Platte Emergency Assistance Center (SPEAC). We also ask that you consider adding a package of diapers for the Northland Infant Clothing Center (NICC) as diapers and wipes are in the largest demand. The Health Ministry team lends out walkers, canes, wheelchairs, bath seats, commodes, crutches, etc. These items are stored in a room off the Sunday school common area.
