In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen God calls on us to honest confession, before God and one another. Let us search our hearts and consider all that we have done, or left undone, to be the disciples that Christ desires. Silence for reflection and self-examination. 1 Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions. 2 Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. 3 For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me. 4 Against you, you alone, have I sinned, and done what is evil in your sight, so that you are justified in your sentence and blameless when you pass judgement. 5 Indeed, I was born guilty, a sinner when my mother conceived me.

2 6 You desire truth in the inward being; therefore teach me wisdom in my secret heart. 7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. 8 Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones that you have crushed rejoice. 9 Hide your face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities. 10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me. 11 Do not cast me away from your presence, and do not take your holy spirit from me. 12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and sustain in me a willing spirit. 13 Then I will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners will return to you. We remain kneeling as the pastor offers God s absolution and forgiveness. Following absolution we stand for the hymn, facing the processional cross as we begin. 3 PRAYER OF THE DAY The Lord be with you. And also with you. Let us pray. O God, with steadfast love you draw us to yourself, and in mercy you receive our prayers. Strengthen us to bring forth the fruits of the Spirit, that through life and death we may live in your Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. We sit. b WORD b CHILDREN S SERMON (11:00 a.m.) FIRST READING: JEREMIAH 31: The days are surely coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah. 32 It will not be like the covenant that I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt a covenant that they broke, though I was their husband, says the Lord. 33But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 34 No longer shall they teach one another, or say to each other, Know the Lord, for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, says the Lord; for I will forgive their iniquity, and remember their sin no more. SECOND READING: HEBREWS 5: Christ did not glorify himself in becoming a high priest, but was appointed by the one who said to him, You are my Son, today I have begotten you ; 6 as he says also in another place, You are a priest forever, according to the order of Melchizedek. 7In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to the one who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission. 8 Although he was a Son, he learned obedience through what he suffered; 9 and having been made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him, 10 having been designated by God a high priest according to the order of Melchizedek. Whoever serves me, the Father will honor. 27 Now my soul is troubled. And what should I say Father, save me from this hour? No, it is for this reason that I have come to this hour. 28 Father, glorify your name. Then a voice came from heaven, I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again. 29 The crowd standing there heard it and said that it was thunder. Others said, An angel has spoken to him. 30 Jesus answered, This voice has come for your sake, not for mine. 31 Now is the judgment of this world; now the ruler of this world will be driven out. 32 And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself. 33 He said this to indicate the kind of death he was to die. These plays are NOT sequential. You can come to any or all of them. Each stands on its own. They do consider how we are called to love one another, as God loves. This is, of course not always an easy task. The value of drama is that through it one is able to explore all sides of an issue or situation. One can present honest feelings that people might be afraid to express in a church community, between friends, or before God. Join us! Gluten Free Wafers and Grape Juice Available for Communion Going forward there will be a ceramic chalice of grape juice on the altar for those who choose not to partake of the wine. Gluten free wafers are also available. Please let the pastor or lay assistant know that you desire grape juice. Deadline Extended for Easter Lily Orders Today is the deadline for Easter Lily orders. It is a tradition at St. Andrew s to decorate the sanctuary with lilies on Easter morning. You may purchase these plants in memory of or in honor of loved ones and to the glory of God. Lilies are associated with Easter and they lend beauty to worship on this special Sunday. If you would like to purchase an Easter lily, please fill out the form included in your bulletin, put the form, along with your check, in the offering plate. In the Meantime Today at 5:30 p.m. In the Meantime is a monthly get together to simply talk about faith and life. We will be meeting today at THE FLYING SAUCER (931 Senate Street.) Come join us and bring a friend! Resurrection Garden On Palm Sunday, March 25, 2018, all children are invited to make a Resurrection garden. We will meet in the Fellowship Hall during the Sunday school hour. The gardens will be used to decorate for the Easter breakfast, after which the children may take their gardens home. Please understand that making a Resurrection garden will result in dirty little hands. Volunteer Opportunities! On Saturday, March 31, we will celebrate the Great Vigil of Easter at 7 p.m. here at St. Andrew s. On this holy night we gather with Christians throughout the world to celebrate Christ s Passover from death into life. Beginning in darkness, and ending in glorious light, this moving service tells some of the greatest stories of the faith and culminates at the Lord s table, where we meet our risen Lord. If you would like to participate in this service as an acolyte, crucifer, usher, or reader, please contact Judy Venturella at jventur319@att.net or (call or text) by March 21 so that assignments may be made.
