In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and the sin that clings so closely. Let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith. Amen Lord of all, Silence for reflection and self-examination. the demands of your righteousness are too hard for us to fulfill alone, so we rush off with this excuse and ignore your law. You forgive our iniquity and remember our sin no more, so we abuse this freedom as if it were a license to selfishness, self-indulgence and self-righteousness. You give us the gift of grace yet we make it cheap without serious repentance. We are your people, but do we know you as our God? Forgive us, Lord, the sins we know in our hearts. Save us, Lord, from the sins we hide And write your mercy on our hearts. We remain kneeling as the pastor offers God s absolution and forgiveness. We sit b WORD b CHILDREN S SERMON (11:00 a.m.) FIRST READING: REVELATION 7:9-17 9After this I looked, and there was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, robed in white, with palm branches in their hands. 10 They cried out in a loud voice, saying, Salvation belongs to our God who is seated on the throne, and to the Lamb! 11 And all the angels stood around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures, and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, 12 singing, Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God forever and ever! Amen. 13Then one of the elders addressed me, saying, Who are these, robed in white, and where have they come from? 14 I said to him, Sir, you are the one that knows. Then he said to me, These are they who have come out of the great ordeal; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. 15 For this reason they are before the throne of God, and worship him day and night within his temple, and the one who is seated on the throne will shelter them. 16 They will hunger no more, and thirst no more; the sun will not strike them, nor any scorching heat; 17 for the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of the water of life, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Packing Food for the Backpack Ministry Please plan to stop by the packing tables in the narthex or the parlor and help pack for the month of November. PLEASE, PLEASE do not pack until after the worship service has ended. Today is All Saints Sunday. It is a wonderful service that ends in a very reverent manner. After the completion of the service, you may stop and help pack food. As always, many hands make for light work! Annual Congregational Meeting Notice The Annual Meeting will take place on Sunday, November 12, at 10:45 a.m. in the sanctuary. The congregation will be asked to approve amendments to the constitution that were adopted by the 2016 church-wide assembly. The primary amendment changes relate to the merging of the three lay rosters into a roster of Ministers of Word and Service and the renaming of ordained clergy as Ministers of Word and Sacrament. Other amendments address duties of rostered ministers, descriptions of membership categories, and required provisions when a congregation unites with another parish. Copies of the amendments will be found on the narthex table. For comparison, copies of the previous constitution will be available upon request. We will also vote on the 2018 Ministry Plan, the proposed construction of a handicapped-accessible bathroom and the Congregational Council nominees. Details are in the November newsletter.
