Siciliano CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS All may make the sign of the cross, the sign marked at baptism, as the presiding minister begins. L: In the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. C: Amen. God is full of compassion and mercy, and abounding in steadfast love. Trusting God s promise of forgiveness, let us confess our sin against God and one another. Silence for reflection and self-examination. Eternal God our creator, in you we live and move and have our being. Look upon us, your children, the work of your hands. Forgive us all our offenses, and cleanse us from proud thoughts and empty desires. By your grace draw us near to you, our refuge and our strength; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. PSALM 145:8-14: The refrain will be sung first by the Cantor, and then by the congregation each time thereafter. The congregation is also invited to sing the verses printed in bold. 8 The LORD is gracious and full of compassion, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. 9 LORD, you are good to all, and your compassion is over all your works. We sit SERMON We stand HYMN OF THE DAY: Great Is Thy Faithfulness (ELW #733) SACRAMENT OF HOLY BAPTISM (8:30 A.M.) (during the baptismal liturgy the congregation will respond as follows) L: Do you believe in God the Father? C: I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. L: Do you believe in Jesus Christ the Son of God? C: I believe in Jesus Christ, God s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. L: Do you believe in God the Holy Spirit? C: I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.

10 For our Parents of Young Children Relax-God put the wiggle in children, and you can rest assured that we are glad they are here worshipping with us. Consider sitting near the front of the church where your child can easily see and participate in worship. Help them follow the service in the bulletin or hymnal, or grab a Quiet Book available in the narthex. These are great ways to keep your child engaged. If your child has questions about worship, one of our staff members would be glad to talk with your child and you. If your child needs a break, feel free to use our parlor, located across the hall from the sanctuary. Parents and children may sit in the parlor and still see and hear the service. A nursery is available during our 11:00 a.m. service for children four years and younger. If you need a quiet place to nurse your baby we have a nursing mother s room right next to the nursery. Both are located though the glass doors toward the education wing. Just ask an usher, and they will gladly point the way. Music News This morning s prelude and postlude consist of the five movements from Michael Burkhardt's organ duet on "Praise to the Lord, the Almighty." Each of the five movements of the work represents a stanza of the hymn. You are invited to be seated in the sanctuary a few minutes prior to the beginning of the worship service and to remain after the dismissal so as not to miss this special music. Greeters A brief (15-20-minute) meeting will be held immediately after the 8:30 service on July 9 and a second session will be held at 10:30 a.m. for the 11 a.m. crowd that same morning. See the open suitcase in the gathering area. Ensemble Our guitar/vocal Ensemble will meet for rehearsal today, immediately after 11 a.m. worship in the chapel. We will be preparing music for July and August, and also getting familiar with some of our Bible School music so some of us can provide vocal support for the group VBS openings and closings.
