2 Page Two September 9, 2018 Save the Date Cardinal Tobin is inviting all the faithful of the Archdiocese of Newark to an Evening of Penance and Prayer on Friday, September 14, 2018 at 7:30 pm at the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart, Newark, NJ. The evening will be dedicated to reparation for and healing of all those impacted by the abuse crisis, particularly the victims, and all of us that make up the Body of Christ. The Cardinal is encouraging all to make it a day of fast and abstinence. More information will follow. The R.C.I.A. These four letters stand for the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. It is a faith journey for adults desiring to become full members of the Catholic Church. Through a gradual process of prayer, faith sharing, study, and rituals, the R.C.I.A. process prepares people for full initiation within the Catholic Church through the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and/or Eucharist. The R.C.I.A. process is designed especially for: Adults never baptized who might desire to become a Catholic. Adults baptized in another Christian church who might desire to become a Catholic. Adults baptized Catholic who have not received the sacraments of Eucharist and/or Confirmation. Please note that one of the qualifications to be a baptismal godparent or Confirmation sponsor is that he/she is a fully initiated Catholic, i.e., the person has received the Sacraments of Initiation of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist. Formation sessions will begin in October, but please contact Fr. John as soon as possible at x280 or jjob.mbs@gmail.com, so that he can go over some of the logistics and answer any questions you may have. The Community of Most Blessed Sacrament looks forward to sharing and celebrating this journey of faith with you! 2018 Sharing God s Blessings: The Archbishop s Annual Appeal Through your generosity, we have surpassed (in pledges) our 2018 AAA goal. The goal was $95,837. We have in pledges of $103,970 with 260 families participating. Now the work of the parish is to make sure those pledges are honored. To date, we have received $86,415 toward those pledges. There is a balance to be collected of $17,555. If all pledges are fulfilled, then Most Blessed Sacrament Parish will receive 62% of all funds received over our assigned goal. At this point, that would mean MBS would receive a rebate check from the Archdiocese of Newark in the amount of $5,042. We have included this amount as anticipated income in our fiscal 2019 budget. Open my heart and mind to new friends and new teachers. Give me a generous spirit to be enthusiastic with my studies and courage to accept new opportunities. 6 Page Six September March 26, 9, Special Noon Mass A special mass and a support group meeting for all who are affected by the disease of alcoholism will take place at Church of St. Mary, 20 Legion Place, Closter, NJ on Saturday, September 15 at 12:00 noon. Mass is offered for the support, healing and recovery of not only the man/woman directly affected with the abuse of alcohol and/or drugs, but also for anyone involved in the life of the alcoholic or drug addict. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased online by going to sjcnj.org or calling Hosting Our Lady of Fatima Pilgrim Statue St. Elizabeth's Church in Wyckoff has 5 traveling statues of Our Lady of Fatima. For over 20 years, Our Blessed Mother's statues have been traveling from home to home...visiting with families. Although this ministry began with a single statue, it has grown to 5 statues. Hosting families have found strength and comfort through Our Lady s presence. As you may know, Our Lady of Fatima asked Lucia, Jacinta, and Francisco to pray the Rosary daily, and to do penance for the salvation of souls. And today, to you and me, Our Lady's message is the same. And so, while the Blessed Mother is in your home, we ask that you try to pray the Holy Rosary (or other devotional prayers to Our Lady) and to perform other tokens of love for the salvation of souls. We are beginning to schedule families to host Our Lady for Several parishioners from MBS currently participate in this devotion and host Our Lady in their homes. If you are not currently a host and would like to have Our Lady of Fatima Pilgrim Statue visit your home in 2019, please contact Kathy Marsico on or at kemarsico@gmail.com. The High School Placement Test (HSPT ) Attention families of 8th grade students planning to attend Catholic high school in Fall 2019! The High School Placement Test (HSPT ) administered as part of the Cooperative Admissions Program for Catholic high schools will be given on Friday, November 9, Registration for this exam is online at beginning September 4th.
