Adult Education Opportunities The Marian Catechist class meets on Tuesday 27 November at 7:00 pm for test #2 in the Lower Church. Sunday Mornings with Sr. Margaret: Adult Classes are held at 10:15am in the parish hall. The next class is on 9 December. A Time to Prepare! Start the season at the Parish Advent Festival! 2 December at 10:15 am. Advent Wreath Making! Food! Music! Outdoors under a tent! Family Event! 3 Dear Parishioners: Happy Thanksgiving! Thirty-Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time I know that many of you will be traveling for the great American feast of Thanksgiving and so I hope that you have a blessed time with family and friends as we give God thanks for the many blessings He has given us. Bishop Guglielmone will be offering a Mass at 10 am on Thanksgiving Day. If you plan to attend please note that the Turkey Day Run takes place that morning, but you can easily access the parish campus if you use Lockwood Dr. or Rutledge Ave. to Broad Street. The Advent Festival is just a few weeks away! Please plan to join the great fun and fellowship as families make their Advent wreaths, enjoy the great food and pick up an Advent Tool-Box containing all the prayers and devotions needed this beautiful season of preparation for the Birth of Our Savior. If you have your wreath from last year just bring it and all the greenery will be provided. If you don t have a wreath you can sign up to purchase one after Mass or call the parish office. Here is a link with all the information you need to sign up to bring a dish to share: Just a few other updates: The Angel Tree: I know that many have looked forward to the Angel Tree each year to provide a Christmas gift to a needy family. Unfortunately, Neighborhood House has discontinued the tradition of providing Christmas gifts for children and has shifted to requesting gift cards for families in need. Please consult the parish bulletin for details about purchasing the requested gift cards for Neighborhood House. Christmas Ornaments: The annual sale of Christmas ornaments by the Men s Group will take place after Masses on the following three weekends: 2, 9, & 16 December or you may drop by the parish office to purchase one. Hymnal Rack Installation: The Cathedral Men s Group will be overseeing the installation of the new hymnal racks and visitor envelope holders. We await their scheduling of this effort but there is a sign-up-sheet on the table outside the elevator if you are able to volunteer. God bless, Msgr. Brovey Newsletter from 16 November P.S. 4 25 November 2018 The Advent Pageant is on Sunday, 16 December at 10:00 am. A sign-up sheet for the many children needed can be found in the Parish Hall entranceway. Please Karen McLaurin at christian.formation@charlestoncathedral.co m. First rehearsal is Saturday, 8 December from 11am-1pm. Dress rehearsal is Saturday, 15 December from 9am-11am. The Advent Pageant is Sunday, 16 December at 10:00am. Help decorate the Cathedral for Christmas! We are beginning to plan now! Help is needed collecting the free Christmas tree cuttings available from local merchants and putting them in buckets of water until needed. We need tons of cuttings! We also need other greenery including magnolia leaves, long leaf pine, cedar, podacarpus/yew, holly leaves and berries, boxwood, and any other greenery that will last being cut. All cuttings need to be kept in water and can be dropped off at the church during office hours beginning 10 December. Holy Cross Cemetery, owned and operated by the Catholic Diocese of Charleston, is selling wreaths ($25) to benefit the Angel Memorial Fund for the betterment of the children s cemetery and garden. If you would like to purchase a wreath or donate money towards the purchase of an iron fence to enclose the Angel Garden, please call Karen at One thing that sets Charleston Catholic apart from other schools is our tremendous Art program. We had two students, Regan and Maggie, win the prestigious Judge's Awards in their age groups at the Coastal Carolina Fair. Students Joseph and Rowland placed 1st and 2nd at the Fair in their division. We are very proud of our Saints! Mark your calendars! Our Alumni and Benefactors Mass is 29 December at 4:30pm at Sacred Heart Church. All graduates of any peninsula Catholic school are invited to attend. Neighborhood House Giving Tree: After last year s great success in providing those in need with an opportunity to shop for their own children, Neighborhood House is again gratefully inviting those wishing to give purchase gift cards in any denomination to: Food Lion, Harris Teeter, Family Dollar, Target, Dollar General or Walmart. Active Membership Various facilities and services are available to our active members. This includes use of the church for Baptisms, Weddings and other Sacramental events, Godparent/Sponsor letters, and includes parishioner status in parochial schools. Active Membership is determined by four things: Being properly registered in the parish for a sufficient period of time. Faithful attendance at Mass on Sundays and Holy Days. Use of the envelope system in support of the parish. Being active in at least one parish program, ministry or organization. Sacrament of Marriage Either the bride or the groom must be a practicing Catholic and registered at the Cathedral for at least twelve months before scheduling a wedding date and beginning the six month marriage preparation. The bride/groom must be an active parishioner, regularly attending Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation, and use of the envelope system in support of the parish.
