They rehearse on Wednesdays from 7-9pm in the Cathedral Music Room. All those who love to sing for the Lord are welcome to join! The Cathedral Girls Choristers provide musical leadership for the 9:00am Sunday Mass, which has traditionally been a family orientated Liturgy. They will sing at the 9am Mass on Sunday. On Wednesday, 21 October, Dan Lord submitted his resignation effective 30 October I thank Dan for all his efforts while on the staff here at the Cathedral and wish him well in his future endeavors. --Monsignor Steven Brovey Opening of the Holy Door & 40 Hours of Devotion Mark your Calendar! The Extraordinary Jubilee: The Year of Mercy will begin on the Feast of the Immaculate Concpetion. On Gaudete Sunday, 13 December 2015, join us as Bishop Guglielmone celebrates the 11:15 am Mass and opens the Holy Door at the Cathedral. The Holy Year Door is at St. Peter s Basilica in Rome, but each Diocese has at least one at their Cathedral for those who cannot make the pilgrimage to Rome. To pass through the door from the outside of the church into its interior, is to pass from this world into the presence of God. When the door is opened, the obstacles of passage to our Lord are removed. During the Holy Year, we hope and pray that the obstacles of personal weakness, temptation and sin will be removed so that we will have a holy union with our Lord. An indulgence is attached to pilgrims making a trip to enter through the Holy Door. A 40 Hours Devotion will then follow 14 & 15 December with guest speaker Matthew Leonard. Altar Server Training is on the 3rd Sunday of each month at 10am. Contact Daniel Barton at (843) to sign up. Those in 3rd grade or older and are interested in serving at Holy Mass are invited to attend training 15 November at 10am in the Church.
2 Website: All Saints Day Prayers for Poor Souls in Purgatory The Church provides a great opportunity to help the departed by performing acts of devotion, repentance and charity. These acts provide remission from temporal punishment and are called indulgences. During the Octave of All Saints, (November 1-8) the Church gives us a special opportunity to gain indulgences for the departed. A plenary or full indulgence, applicable only to the souls in Purgatory, is granted to the faithful who, 1. On any and each day from November 1 to 8, devoutly visit a cemetery and pray, if only mentally, for the departed; or 2. On All Soul s Day, devoutly visit a church or oratory and recite an Our Father and Creed. A partial indulgence, applicable only to the souls in Purgatory, is granted to the faithful who, 1. Devoutly visit a cemetery and at least mentally pray for the dead; or 2. Devoutly recite lauds and vespers from the Office for the Dead or the prayer Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord and let the perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen. It is also necessary to fulfill the following conditions for the plenary indulgence, 1. Make a sacramental confession; and 2. Receive Holy Communion; and 3. Pray for the intention of the Holy Father (no particular prayers are prescribed for the intention of the Holy Father, an Our Father and a Hail Mary are appropriate). These conditions may be fulfilled several days before or after the visit to the Church. A plenary indulgence can only be acquired once in the course of the day; it is, however, fitting that Holy Communion be received and the prayer for the intention of the Holy Father be said on the same day the work is performed. Prayers for the dead, especially offering the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass for their eternal repose, rests securely on this truth expressed so eloquently by St. Paul: Christ died and came to life, that he might be Lord of both the dead and the living (Romans 14:9). The candles placed on Our Lady s Altar are in memory of: William J. Kanapaux, Jr. Caroline Campbell Richard James Magill Betty Gillgam Grace Healy Emilija M. Kutkus and will be lit during the Octave of All Souls. Please, in your charity, pray for the repose of their souls and all those who have died this past year.

The Charleston Port and Seafarers Society Christmas at Sea The annual Christmas at Sea project is a very special way to share God s love with lonely and isolated mariners at Christmastime. Most will not see their families for 8 months to a year at a time. During the Advent season, Christmas gift boxes are delivered to the seafarers who visit the Port of Charleston. What a blessing it is to the men and women who receive this simple act of kindness! Last year, one seafarer told a volunteer that his ship had a Christmas tree, but nothing underneath it. Christmas at Sea not only changed that, but sent a message to lonely seafarers at Christmastime that God wants all to know the gift of His Son. We provide 9 x9 x4 boxes. Fill the box only with the items listed below, gift wrap the box, and return to the individual you obtained the box from by 1 December 2015.
