2 Pastor s Corner I want to say thank you first of all for all those who worked to make our parish picnic a success last weekend! Thanks especially to Jeff and Liz Dehne and the Knights and all those who helped behind the scenes. Thank you also for your prayers this week as I was on retreat--it was a great birthday present to get a few days of rest with brother priests before the fall begins! Speaking of the fall--there are a lot of great things happening: the discipleship classes on the Old Testament will be starting in a couple weeks, Dr. John Bergsma is coming to Oregon in October, and many other opportunities to grow in faith and charity will be forthcoming. If you have any ideas for projects or new ministries, please let me know. Our parish database is being updated and we will have a parish survey soon to update our records and get from you a better picture what you would like to see at St. Alice, and what talents you would like to contribute to our parish family. I look forward to hearing new ideas for evangelization and service! As you notice, we've been putting the weekly collection report in the bulletin as part of an ongoing effort to be more transparent with our finances. Once a month we will also put our expenses so you can see what the actual costs of 'keeping the lights on' from month to month are. Hopefully in the next month we will be able to make our official financial report from last year to all of you--our main computer crashed before all the data could be transferred so it's taking us a little longer than expected inputting data by hand. Thank you for your patience. Lastly, the whole church rejoices because we have a new canonized Saint: Mother Teresa! It doesn't surprise anyone that she is a saint, but I hope that you all take the opportunity to read a good book about her to appreciate her more. I recommend heartily the book, "I loved Jesus in the night" by Fr. Paul Murray if you want to understand her spiritual life and passion in the midst of the 'dark night of the soul'--fr. Murray has particular insight because he was one of Mother's spiritual directors. Until next time Blessings, Fr. Mark Bentz POPE FRANCIS PRAYER INTENTIONS FOR SEPTEMBER Universal: Centrality of the Human Person, That each may contribute to the common good and to the building of a society that places the human person at the center. Evangelization: Mission to Evangelize, That by participating in the Sacraments and meditating on Scripture, Christians may become more aware of their mission to evangelize.
