Dear Friends, In the hustle and bustle of our daily lives we often fail to make time for gentle walks in the evening or sitting in the garden or quietly reflecting on the day gone by. But when we do go for that walk how often do we go with our heads down, our minds on other things and walking at a rate of knots? How often do we walk with our eyes and ears open and our minds focused on where we are and what we are seeing? How often do we really see what is around us and, more than that, how often do we give thanks to God for it? During my time off I had the chance to catch up on some reading and one book that has brought this home to me is Occasions for Alleluia by David Adams. David Adams is a well known and respected priest in Celtic spirituality. In this book he reminds his readers that God communicates with us, talks to us, through His creation. Not only through the wonders of nature but in the hustle and bustle of city life, through the lives of friends and strangers with whom we come into contact during our lives. The idea is that we open our eyes to see and our ears to listen. Too often we relegate God to the far distance when, in fact, God is close at hand; we have no need to search for Him for in Him we live and move and have our being (Acts 17:28). I don t know about you but often I am guilty of being in a beautiful place sitting on Penrallt or walking along the River Dyfi - and instead of basking in the beauty and wonder of the moment I decide I must text someone!! We have this urge to fill our lives with agendas and tasks instead of giving time to the glories that are around us; the glories that are God all around us - if we would only stop and allow ourselves to see His glory. David Adams encourages us to still our lives to give God the opportunity to speak to us; to give Him our attention so that we can get to know Him and enjoy His presence. Now I d like to be with you, That s strange, There s no-one here. By Daphne Kitching Prayer about Priorities Lord, we are all so busy. Life is full of demands and deadlines, each one urgent, or so it seems. We rush around trying to do everything, trying to please everyone and sometimes we miss what is really important and don t realise until it s too late. Remind us, Lord, that some opportunities don t come again. And that actually, we do have time. We have all the time of our lives, which you give to us. Help us to take our time and use it wisely, to choose to sit at your feet, like Mary, and listen to you; to seek you first, so that the rest of our life time will be in balance. 4 PARISH VISIT Following an invitation from the Revd Lyndsay Ford, parisioners from our four churches made their way to the ancient Church of St Celynnin, Llangelynnin on Sunday evening 25th August. It was a beautiful afternoon to enjoy the beautiful drive along the coast and we were warmly welcomed to join the Patronal Festival of St Celynnin. This ancient church was once the parish church of Llwyngwril and Fairbourne and the distances worshippers travelled usually on foot never ceases to amaze the worshippers of today. There is no electricity or heating and basic wooden pews cushions are provided! Nothing took away from the joy of sharing worship in a sacred place with centuries of faithful people before us. Following bi-lingual evensong we were invited to the Rectory at Llwyngwril for refreshments what a spread! Many thanks to Mrs Ford and her team of ladies. We look forward to returning the invitation to The Revd Lyndsay and his parishioners in the near future. CONFIRMATION The Bishop will be at St Peter s Church on Sunday 25th November for a Service of Confirmation. If anyone is interested in learning more about confirmation please contact the Revd Kathleen or the Revd Roland Barnes ( ). Confirmation classes for those who have put their names forward will start on Tuesday the 10th September at Cemmaes Church Room 7.30pm 9pm. SEPTEMBER The holidays are over and it s time for school!! We send our love and prayers to all our children going back to school, some for the first time, some to new schools and new teachers. We remember the teachers and all who work in our schools and also our young people going off to University, some leaving home for the first time. We ask for God s blessing on them all.

5 ST DEINIOL of BANGOR bringing disagreeing bishops together 11 th September St Deiniol was a 6th century monk of Wales who came to be the first bishop of Bangor. And a mighty bishop he was, too: Deiniol founded the two monasteries of Bangor Fawr (on the Menai Straits) and Bangor Iscoed (Clwyd), which, according to Bede, became the most famous monastery of British Christianity and came to number over 2,000 monks. Sadly, they were defeated at the battle of Chester by the pagan Aethelfrith, king of Northumbria. Deiniol is also remembered for his skill in getting disagreeing bishops to come and talk things over at a Synod surely a skill which his 21st century successors have had to put to great use! He died about 584 AD. Dates to Remember. A Remembrance Service was held at St Peter s Church led by the Revd John Dale followed by interment at Aberdyfi Cemetery. 9 UNDEB Y MAMAU - MOTHERS' UNION The 2013/14 session will start with a celebration of Holy Eucharist at St Peter s on Thursday afternoon 19th September at 2:00 pm. Followed by a meeting at the Parish Office. The Guest Speaker will be Mrs Kath Broadbent. New members are very welcome. St Peter's Church Charity Shop The St Peter's Church Charity Shop which has been open on Wednesdays and Fridays from the 19th June and will close on Friday 30th August has again been very successful this year and at the time of going to press with one day left of the Half Price Sale the takings up to Wedneday 28th August have totalled which is a fantastic achievement. Our thanks go to Margaret and Joyce for organising the shop, to all others that have manned the shop and of course to all our customers from far and wide. CORRIS NEWS To celebrate our meeting 50 years ago on the P&O Liner S.S. Chusan on 10th August 1963 at Melborne Docks, we went on a trip to Shrewsbury Flower Show. We had a lovely day, the weather was kind to us and the journey there and back was most pleasant. Very many thanks to Mrs Payne. If you haven't been to the Flower Show, please go. Apart from the Exhibitions, so many craftsperson's are able to show off their skills. Which reminds me of a story. A vicar was walking along the lane and happened to stand on tip-toe to look over a hedge at the little garden full of flowers, with the old gardener tending his plants. Good Morning said the vicar, what a beautiful display you have! Its amazing what Gad and Man can do together. 13 St Peter s Autumn Walks September. The Sublime Mawddach Saturday 14th September. Distance 4.5 miles (7.2 km) grade - easy, with acouple of styles. We shall be leaving from St Peter s Church at 09:30 am proceeding to Morfa Mawddach Station Car Park on the southerly side of Barmouth Bridge. The walk will be in and around the surrounding area. A packed lunch is required and dependant on numbers lifts might be required. For further information contact cliveandhelena@hotmail.co.uk or parishioners enjoyed the August walk from Borth to Taliesin. As you can see alternative transport was arranged for those who felt the need!!! Happy to say no one took up the option.
