2 NOTICES VICARAGE GARDEN PARTY: today s Vicarage Garden Party is postponed due to the weather and will now take place in a week s time, Sunday 19 July, from 3pm to 5pm, ending with an act of worship. Please feel free to bring cakes and if you have one, a garden chair. EVENING WORSHIP: despite the postponement of the Vicarage Garden Party there will still be NO evening service today, next week s evening service will be at the Vicarage Garden Party, from 26 July Evening services will be as normal. RIP: Hilda Lewis passed away last week and her service was held last Friday, unfortunately details were not received in time for an announcement. CONGRATULATIONS: to Malcolm & Mary Rayner on their Ruby Wedding Anniversary today. CONFIRMATION: anyone who is interested in being prepared for Confirmation please contact Trystan. YOUTH GROUP: our youth group will be held during the 10am service on the third Sunday of every month. The next session is today, July 19, and will include snacks. All year olds are welcome. The young people are also invited to join the vicar in visiting the local care home, Cartref on Wednesday 22 July at 10.30am. This is a good chance to do your bit for the local community! PCC FOCUS GROUPS: are reminded to please meet over the coming weeks prior to full PCC meeting in September. PCC MEETINGS: will be held in September, firstly on 7 September at 7.30pm for the Focus groups to present their reports, and secondly on 29 September at 8.00pm to discuss hall. 2

3 THURSDAY 9.30 AM EUCHARIST: Eucharists are on 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month. There is tea and coffee afterwards. Numbers are growing, so come and join us! The dates for the next month are: July 16, August 6 & 20 OPEN FOR PRAYER: we are now offering a midweek opening on a regular basis for general private prayer or special intentions on the first Tuesday of each month between 10.00am and noon, the next being Tuesday August 4 th. ABER VALLEY CHOIR UPDATE: Following the concert in Christ Church part of the choir proceeded to the Three Arches afterwards and gave another performance for the customers. The Manager kindly arranged a collection to be donated to the Charity the choir had sang for earlier in the evening. Consequently at practice I was presented with a little over 58 which is to go towards the new church hall fund. The end result is that we now raised a grand total

4 SEVENTH SUNDAY OF PENTECOST Collect Merciful God, you have prepared for those who love you such good things as pass our understanding: pour into our hearts such love toward you that we, loving you in all things and above all things, may obtain your promises, which exceed all that we can desire; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. AMEN. A reading from St Pauls letter to the Ephesians Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God s grace that he lavished on us. With all wisdom and understanding, he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, to be put into effect when the times reach their fulfilment to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ. This is the word of the Lord Thanks be to God Psalm 24 Listen to the Gospel of Christ according to Mark Glory to you, O Lord. 4

5 On his birthday Herod gave a banquet for his high officials and military commanders and the leading men of Galilee. When the daughter of Herodias came in and danced, she pleased Herod and his dinner guests. The king said to the girl, Ask me for anything you want, and I ll give it to you. And he promised her with an oath, Whatever you ask I will give you, up to half my kingdom. She went out and said to her mother, What shall I ask for? The head of John the Baptist, she answered. At once the girl hurried in to the king with the request: I want you to give me right now the head of John the Baptist on a dish. The king was greatly distressed, but because of his oaths and his dinner guests, he did not want to refuse her. So he immediately sent an executioner with orders to bring John s head. The man went, beheaded John in the prison, and brought back his head on a dish. He presented it to the girl, and she gave it to her mother. On hearing of this, John s disciples came and took his body and laid it in a tomb. This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you O Christ. Post Communion Prayer God of our pilgrimage, you have led us to the living water: refresh and sustain us as we go forward on our journey, in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. AMEN The Apostles Creed We believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth; We believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, 5

6 was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. 6
