2 SERVICE OF CELEBRATION AND HEALING AND WHOLENESS The Diocesan Healing Group are holding this service on Sunday 18th October at 6pm at Portsmouth Cathedral, to honour and celebrate the work of healing within our community and to affirm the contribution of all those involved in local health services and parish prayer ministry teams. Please see the flyer at the back of this newssheet. LOCAL RETREATS There a couple of retreats coming up based on the boat 'Resolute' at Cobnor. Christine McLeish is organising them and I have left information postcards about them at the back of church. One is a Men Only w/e in October and the other is lead by Dr Philip Newell who was the Spiritual Director for Portsmouth Diocese a few years ago and who has strong links with the Iona community. It is a very beautiful setting right on one of the estuaries of Chichester Harbour. Check on line for more details - Valerie Palmer WORLD S BIGGEST COFFEE MORNING - FRIDAY, 25TH SEPTEMBER Please join us at the church centre between 10am and 12 noon on Friday 25th September for this great fund raising event. There will be coffee, tea and plenty of delicious cakes available to buy, to raise funds for MacMillan Cancer Support. For further details contact Beth on or on: theunis.beth@gmail.com GREENING ROWLANDS CASTLE CAMPAIGN A public meeting by the Rowlands Castle Greening Campaign group will be held at the Parish Hall on Tuesday, 13th October at 7.30pm. Terena Plowright, who founded the national campaign, will be giving a short presentation and lead a discussion on how we can help to address the challenges of climate change in our community. If you can go along, your support will be most welcome, as without public support the campaign will have to be disbanded. Fiona Charlesworth, RCA

3 REFUGEES - PETITION TO WELCOME REFUGEES There is a petition in church relating to 'Safe Havens for Christians' from the BarnabasFund. Yes, Mr Cameron has said that the UK will accept higher numbers of Syrian refugees and that these will taken from the refugee camps located in the Middle East to discourage people making perilous journeys by land and sea. Justin Welby, the Archbishop has pointed out that this will further discriminate against Christians who have fled persecution in Syria. This is because many Christians avoid the camps because of rogue Islamist elements within the camps who target and marginalise them. So the petition is necessary to try to address the terrible circumstances so many of 'our family' find themselves in. You can also sign by visiting the 38 Degrees website at Valerie Palmer CHURCH FAMILY EVENT SUNDAY 11 th OCTOBER 6:45 for 7pm Church Centre We as a church family have been financially supporting Dr Rhiannon Lloyd in her work of reconciliation with Mercy Ministries/Healing the Nations for a few years. I m delighted to say that she is visiting the area and has offered to come and tell us more about the Healing of Ethic Conflict Workshops what she facilitates within the Christian communities in the countries that she has been invited to. The results have been life changing as God has blessed the deep repentance of the churches and their leaders in Rwanda, Liberia and DRC and several other countries where civil war has occurred. Please do come along and enjoy hearing how your gifts have helped make a very significant difference to individuals and in the nations. She is a compelling and gracious speaker with some amazing and challenging stories to tell. Drinks and nibbles will be available. Valerie Palmer CHURCHYARD WORKING PARTY - TUESDAY 6TH OCTOBER Advance Notice; there will be a churchyard working party for a Grand Autumn Slash and Burn (without the burn) to clear away a lot of excess growth in the churchyard. It will be on Tuesday 6 th October from 0900 to lunch time. If you can trim, prune, weed, shear or generally help keep the growth down and cut out extraneous growth, please come along and help. 4 AN EVENING WITH TOM KENNAR: SATURDAY 7TH NOVEMBER In attempting, as he puts it, to make a dent in the 800k fundraising target for St Faith s, Havant, Tom Kennar, the Rector of Havant, wonders whether a few folks might be interested in turning their hearing aids down, and coming over to support us? This is a special one-man show performed by Tom Kennar, as he plays his own compositions, with some popular favourites and with great pleasure readings. Tickets are 6 ( 4 concessions) and are available in advance from St. Faith s Parish Office on or office@stfaith.com. Study Group each Wednesday at 2 Glendale. Here is a specific and very practical way you can help 'your family' in Syria. The Polish Government and churches in Poland have made an offer to provide refuge for Syrian Christian families; provided they can get there. Barnabas Fund is raising money to help pay for transport for these refugees and assist with basic living expenses for one year. Can you help? Barnabas Fund are also working with governments around the world to secure visas, and with local churches in receiving countries to settle families, give them language skills and find work so they can support themselves. 5 Pray for all those in our church family who have particular needs or are bereaved and also for our Young Church. Pray also for the apostolic mission of our church. If you would like prayers for yourself, for a person or situation of concern to you, please do ask at the end of the service. We have a growing number of our church family who are, in one way or another, suffering with acute or persistent health problems or generally needing our prayers for their health and wholeness. We would like to extend a particular invitation to all those working in healthcare within the area of Portsmouth Diocese as well as those involved in healing ministry in our churches and we look forward to welcoming as many of you as possible on this special occasion.
