Applications should be ed to the parish. Our Church is in need of a Children s and Youth Worker to work with young people during our Church time. The position is for 5 hours per week and involves: 2 hours for planning and preparation that can be done at a time suitable to the Co-ordinator. 3 hours Sunday morning between 8 am to 11am. During this time the Children s ministry is set up, facilitated and then packed away. Do you know someone who might be suitable to fill this position? MISSION OF THE MONTH AUGUST: 2

We pray for those who are mourning the loss of loved ones We give thanks for Murray, our Bishop-elect, and pray for him and his family as they prepare to move to the Grafton Diocese. We pray for the family service each Sunday evening at 5.30pm. May God continue to bring new families to join in fellowship We pray for a new Rector, a prayerful pastor, who will faithfully speak your word and minister your sacraments; an encourager who will equip and fill your people with enthusiasm for ministry in this place; one who will enable everyone to fulfil their calling. 4 1 Kings ; Then David slept with his ancestors, and was buried in the city of David. 11 The time that David reigned over Israel was forty years; he reigned for seven years in Hebron, and thirtythree years in Jerusalem. 12 So Solomon sat on the throne of his father David; and his kingdom was firmly established. 3 3 Solomon loved the Lord, walking in the statutes of his father David; only, he sacrificed and offered incense at the high places. 4 The king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there, for that was the principal high place; Solomon used to offer a thousand burnt-offerings on that altar. 5 At Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said, Ask what I should give you. 6 And Solomon said, You have shown great and steadfast love to your servant my father David, because he walked before you in faithfulness, in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart towards you; and you have kept for him this great and steadfast love, and have given him a son to sit on his throne today. 7 And now, O Lord my God, you have made your servant king in place of my father David, although I am only a little child; I do not know how to go out or come in. 8 And your servant is in the midst of the people whom you have chosen, a great people, so numerous they cannot be numbered or counted. 9 Give your servant therefore an understanding mind to govern your people, able to discern between good and evil; for who can govern this your great people? 10 It pleased the Lord that Solomon had asked this. 11 God said to him, Because you have asked this, and have not asked for yourself long life or riches, or for the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern what is right, 12 I now do according to your word. Indeed I give you a wise and discerning mind; no one like you has been before you and no one like you shall arise after you. 13 I give you also what you have not asked, both riches and honour all your life; no other king shall compare with you. 14 If you will walk in my ways, keeping my statutes and my commandments, as your father David walked, then I will lengthen your life. 5 Ephesians Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. 12 For it is shameful even to mention what such people do secretly; 13 but everything exposed by the light becomes visible, 14 for everything that becomes visible is light. Name Badges: If you would like to purchase a name badge please add your name to the list on the back table. Flower Pots: Col McFadyen needs empty pots, preferably around 4". He is striking plants ready for the next time the Parish has a garage sale or similar. Please leave them at either Parish office or Op Shop. Ladies Study Group: The next study group has started at 2pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. We are looking at a book called The Five Habits of Highly Missional People by Michael Frost. This study explores ways to develop habits that re-energise and refresh us as we connect more deeply with Jesus and those we come into contact with each day. The book can be downloaded free from the internet or we can print you a copy. Please add your name to the sign up list on the notice board if you are interested to join or speak to Anne if you need more information. Family Service: Each Sunday night during the school term we have an intergenerational service for families with children who want to have church time but no stress time. We have a time of sharing, some creativity and communion. Our service usually finishes with a simple shared meal and time of fellowship. Would you like to be involved in some way? 7 Daffodil Day Service: St John s will be hosting the annual Daffodil Day Service of Hope on Thursday 23rd August at 6pm. This is an opportunity to remember that God brings hope through adversity. Students from BDC will be providing some musical offerings. Most of us know someone who has been affected by cancer or have had cancer. Who can you invite to this service of thanksgiving and hope? Bishops Consecration and Installation Sat 29 Sept at 10am The diocese is offering our parish 4 tickets for reserved seating inside the cathedral for the Bishop s Consecration. Please contact Canon David or the Rev d Anne no later that Tuesday 21 August so an RSVP can be sent to the diocese. Of course, every parishioner is encouraged to attend this significant event in the life of our diocese. Overflow seating will be available in the cathedral hall, where the service will be telecast. Ideas: Do you have any ideas about things pertaining to our parish? Things that might happen or things that might be different? Add your thoughts to the suggestion box. This is located on the table near the sound desk. We are all in this together! Diocesan Appeal: There is a letter on the notice board from Archdeacon Gail, seeking donations to the Bishop s Discretionary Fund which has been seriously depleted. Please give this your prayerful consideration. A prayer for rain O God, our country is thirsty for rain and we wait for you to refresh the land and all its creatures, the rivers and lakes, the crops and gardens. Send abundant rain, we pray, and teach us to be better stewards of all the blessings you provide, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. 7
