We offer the prayers for family, friends or anyone who is in need of prayer. Please let us know if there is a special person that you would like us to add to our prayer basket. All ladies of the parish are welcome to join us even if you can't come every week. 3 Weekly Offertory Collection Holy Family St. Anthony October 29 and 30 $ $ Building Fund $ 13, This week we will support our parishioners and their families who serve or have served this nation with distinction as members of the U.S. military. The Collection for the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA will provide the Gospel, the sacraments and other forms of spiritual support to the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces wherever they serve and to veterans who are in VA medical centers. 5 The Pastor's Corner The month of November is traditionally known as the Month of Dead. On November 2nd, the Church celebrated the Feast of All Souls, when we pray for those who have died. During the month of November, Catholics continue to pray for the dead, entrusting them to God's mercy. For many Catholics, the idea of praying for the deceased is second nature. We have prayers for the blessing of the body of someone who has just died, we have wake services, funeral masses, committals, and memorial masses on the anniversary of someone's death. To some, this might not appear to make much sense. After all, once they're dead, their in God's hands, so why pray for them? They're facing God's judgement. so what can our prayers accomplish? As Catholics, we believe that they can accomplish a lot. This is because Catholics believe in purgatory. In short, this means that some of us, while some of us aren't evil enough to face eternal damnation (hell) when we die, some of us aren't quite ready for heaven. Some period of purification is needed before we are ready to face God's glory. Our prayers for the deceased ask God to show mercy for those souls. Our prayers for the dead aren't just prayers of supplication. They are also prayers of thanksgiving for that person's life and presence among us. Next time you attend a funeral, listen closely to the prayers. If you do, you will hear prayers the express praise to god and our hope in Eternal Life. As Christ rose from the dead, so we will rise with him at the end of time. Peace and all good! Fr. Aaron WORKS OF MERCY Weekly suggestions for the faithful to consider November 6: Study and reflect on the life of a saint. November 11 (Veterans Day): Pray for veterans and those who died in service to their country. If you know any veterans, thank them for their service and invite them to share their stories. November 13: Pray for healing for those who have lost a child to abortion and for the souls of their unborn children. Pray also that more will come to understand that all life, from conception to natural death, is precious and a gift from God November 20: As you gather for your Thanksgiving meal, offer prayers for loved ones living and deceased. Share some beloved memories and dedicate yourself to making new ones. November 27: Reflect on the Year of Mercy and how you will continue to seek and share God s mercy going forward.
