4 Faith Formation for Holy Family will be starting up this fall. This will be for children in grades K-12. If you would like to have your child or grandchild included, please call the parish office at Faith Formation for St. Anthony Grades 1-3: Classes will be held every Sunday Morning from 9:30 to 10:30. Knights of Columbus Jackman Council 2392 Monthly meetings are held the first Monday of the month at 6:30pm in the St Faustina Church Hall. The Rene Morin Senior Luncheon will be held the 3rd Wednesday each month at 11:30am in St Faustina Church Hall and the doors will open at 11am. Please join us! 1st & 3rd Mondays of each month at 1 pm in the Rectory - Holy Family Ladies Guild- At each meeting the rosary is said for the conversion of our country, for our church, and for those on our parish prayer list. Tuesdays at 1:00 PM - St. Faustina Ladies Prayer Groupmeets to pray the Miraculous Medal Novena, the Liturgy of the Hours and the Rosary, Stations of the Cross or a Chaplet. We offer the prayers for family, friends or anyone who is in need of prayer. Please let us know if there is a special person that you would like us to add to our prayer basket. All ladies of the parish are welcome to join us even if you can't come every week. Get Your Hands Dirty! One of our parishes has started a community garden. The raised-bed plots are in place and the soil it making itself over winter. The lasagna method was used layering newspapers, soil, and compost. The garden plots were ready for planting in the spring. The produce is given to local food pantries and those in need could even help participate by developing their own plot! 5 The Pastor's Corner Attentiveness to God's Creation In a conversation I once had with my mother about raising children, she told me, "Aaron, children don't come with instructions." My mom is very wise woman! While there is no guide to tell parents what to do in every circumstance, the guiding framework is a loving parental relationship with that child. In his encyclical Laudato Si', Pope Francis invites us to understand more deeply our relationship with God, one another, and the rest of creation, and to live accordingly. "Everything is connected," he says (LS 91). God uses creation to bring us into loving relationship with himself, especially through the sacraments. We experience this in a special way in the Eucharist, the Precious Body and Blood of Christ, received by us under the appearance of bread and wine. Our relationship with Christ-strengthened by receiving him worthily in Holy Communion-helps us to understand our relationships with one another and with creation. The Holy Father warns against placing ourselves at the center, thinking that we don't need God and lacking concern for other creatures (LS 122, 68-69). but he also rejects the view that "the presence of human beings on the planer should be reduced and all forms of intervention prohibited." (LS, 60). Pope Francis affirms that all human beings possess "a particular dignity above other creatures" and have a distinct responsibility for the world entrusted to us. (LS 119, 242). When any of our relationships are out of balance-with God, one another, or the rest of creation-all our relationships suffer. We see evidence of this on a large scale today. Our distorted relationship with God has infected our relationship with the earth, as evidenced by pollution, lack of =clean water, toxic waste, and immense material waste. What the pope calls a "culture of waste or a throwaway culture" even treats human life as disposable. the elderly are marginalized, persons with disabilities ae considered worthless, and the fact that the "worth of a human being transcends his or her degree of development," is forgotten-leading to the destruction of unwanted babies in the womb and experimentation on embryonic children in the lab (LS136,123). Sometimes, even efforts to alleviate the suffering of certain populations have lead to offenses against human life. the Pope warns against international pressure which makes the promotion of contraception, abortion, and other harmful practices a condition for economic aid. Additionally, some efforts to protect the environment and other creatures disregard or even attack the dignity of human beings. The Holy Father makes it clear that this approach is not only inconsistent, but it "compromises the meaning of our struggle for the sake of the environment" (LS 91). Pope St. John Paul II Reminded us that "no peaceful society can afford to neglect either the respect for life or the fact that there is an integrity to creation." (11990 World Day of Peace,7). He also reminded Catholics of their "serious obligation to care for all creation"(16). If we are filled with the love of God, a culture of care and solidarity will begin to bloom. "We are speaking of an attitude of the heart, one which approaches life with serene attentiveness, which is capable of being fully present to someone without thinking of what comes next." (LS 226). With this attitude of heart, we neither treat other human beings as disposable, not neglect to care for God's creation at any level. Peace and all good! Fr. Aaron
