2 NOMINATION SUNDAY May 6 & 7 and 13 & 14 St. Joan of Arc Parish Each year, we seek a few Area Representatives from the parish to serve on our St Joan of Arc Parish Pastoral Council. We urge all parishioners to join in this important event by nominating members of the parish whom you think would serve the parish well as Council Members. They don t have to be highly visible parishioners there are so many Quiet Parishioners who would be outstanding members of council! Today let s give them a chance to serve! Membership qualifications?? Any Catholic parishioner who has been registered in the parish for at least one full year, and have Shown dedication to the mission and spiritual welfare of the parish, and Are willing to work in a group process of prayer, consensus building and planning. The term is three (3) years. This is a wonderful opportunity to respond to our Baptismal call to serve the community of faith where we live. Those nominated will be contacted with further information. Nominees are then invited to attend an informational meeting to reaffirm their willingness to serve. Those willing to serve will join in a prayer process of Discernment truly is an example of the Holy Spirit at work among us. 3 From the Pastor Greetings of Easter Peace. We are looking for members of St. Joan of Arc to serve on our Parish Pastoral Council. This weekend (and next weekend) we have the chance to nominate members of the parish to serve on Council. Any Catholic parishioner who has been registered in the parish for at least one full year is eligible. They don t have to be highly visible parishioners - there are so many Quiet Parishioners who could be outstanding members of council! basis. But what about being an Entrance? And which is it, exactly, that Jesus intends to be in his teaching? Gates swing both ways, keeping some safely within and allowing others passage out. Jesus proposes to do both: to be the one who leads us safely out and guides us with his familiar voice on the way to a more abundant life. And to be the place of refuge, the pasture we seek to sustain us. Jesus is clear there are others who come and go, marauders who usurp This weekend we celebrate First Holy Communion with our second graders. Congratulations and welcome to the table of the Lord As you share in Jesus most sacred body and blood may you grow to be more like him, whom you receive. Our prayers are with you and your families. SJA AVILA MINISTRY You are invited to join us to pray for vocations to the Priesthood and Religious Life on Friday, May 12th after the 8 a.m. Mass. Excellence Please pray for all our 2 nd graders who received the sacrament of First Eucharist this weekend. Congratulations to all of our second graders and their families. We celebrate with you as these children are now able to participate with us more completely in the liturgy. Our prayers are with you as you take this important step in your faith journey. Our 2 nd graders will have a special day of celebration on Monday, May 8 th. Immediately following the 9:00 Mass on Tuesday, May 9 th, we will honor Mary by having our May Crowning. Please join us for the Mass and May Crowning, which will include a living rosary led by the students and a special procession with this year's First Communicants. On Wednesday evening, May 10, at 7:00 we will have our Spring Choral, Strings and Band Concert. Students in grades four through eight will be performing. Thank you to our choral and band director, Miss Karen Meyer and to Mr. Dan Anderson, our strings director for their hard work this year. Help support SJA this spring by purchasing your Flowers, Hanging Baskets or Plants at the SJA Plant Sale! Sale dates will be on 5/19, 5/20 and 5/21 in the school parking lot. With less than one month of school remaining, our students continue to reach goals and experience the joy of learning. On Friday, May 12 th our 7 th and 8 th graders will be going on a field trip to Cleveland. Some of the highlights of our trip include visits to the Christmas Story House and the Museum of Divine Statues, as well as, a guided tour of St. John s Cathedral. Students will also have the opportunity to visit Lakeview Cemetery and have lunch at Mama Santa s in Little Italy. We will be ending our day by taking in an Indians game! Please pray for a safe trip and good weather for our students. 50TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY MASS Reservations are now being accepted for couples married 50 years. The Mass will be on Sunday, July 30th at 2:30 p.m. at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist. Forms are available in the parish office. Please fill out the form and bring or mail it to the parish office before June 19th. OFFICE OF FAITH FORMATION PSR REGISTRATION Registration Packets for the PSR school year were sent home on April 23/24, with the youngest/only student in each family. Thank you for your early return of the registration and other important forms. SACRAMENT OF THE EUCHARIST JESUS DAY THANK YOU to all our wonderful parents and 2 nd Grade Catechists who helped on Jesus Day. Your presence and generous service helped make our second graders retreat day such a special and memorable one for them. You are awesome!!

5 CELEBRATION OF MARY The Stewardship Committee and SJA Ministries invite you to a Celebration of Mary with evening events during the month of May starting at 7 p.m. in the parish hall. FIRST HOLY COMMUNION We congratulate all our SJA First Communicants who received the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist on May 6th and 7th. May Jesus, the Living Bread, continue to bless our children and their families.
