2 20th Sunday In Ordinary Time August 19, 2018 Hey there! Top of the Mornin (or Evenin ) to Ya! If you re reading this before Saturday Mass, I m probably headed to bed after a long and beautiful day touring Our Lady of Knock Shrine. If it s Sunday, we re touring the Cliffs of Moher where I ll be trying to keep our group entertained on long bus rides! Please know I ve packed all the intentions you sent me and are keeping you in prayer. OK back to St. Es. Here you are, sitting in your pew before Mass. There s some whispering around you, but all in all it s pretty quiet. You try to calm yourself by saying an Our Father and Hail Mary; you say some prayers for that friend / relative who s going through a tough time. And then you reach for the bulletin to see what your charming young pastor has penned this week. Don t those priests keep getting younger and younger you think to yourself. Here s what I d like you to do. Get the blue book out and open the tiny book to page 54. Look at the Responsorial Psalm, Taste and See the goodness of the Lord. For those of you playing at home, it s Psalm 34. -Where do you see the Goodness of the Lord in your life? -In spite of the sufferings you experience, is there any goodness within them? Any ways you can see the Lord at work? -Reflect on these for a moment. Rest and repeat the directive: Taste and See the Goodness of the Lord! Now onto the Second Reading, Ephesians 5: Read and reflect on this passage: Try to understand what is the will of the Lord. -What does the Lord want for you? What is His will? Not sure? Think of a situation you face. What is the right thing? Invite God into it at this moment. How about this next passage: Giving thanks always and for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God the Father. -Where do you need to give thanks? Where do you want to say thank you to the Lord? Yeah yeah family blah blah get specific! Think of something that happened this week, a way He provided, a way you were corrected or challenged, a time where you grew. And thank Him! Blessings on your week! Please pray for me! I hope I can find some good coffee while I m in Ireland.

September s meeting will explore The Hobbit, October The Fellowship of the Ring Book One and in November, The Fellowship of the Ring Book Two.

4 August 19, 2018 News Around Town Catholic Vision in JRR Tolkien s The Lord of the Rings The Daughters of St. Paul will present a new series on JRR Tolkien this Fall on Monday s Sept. 10, Oct. 8 & Nov. 12, at 7 pm, Pauline Books & Media, 9804 Watson Rd. in Crestwood. Local author & actor Kevin O Brien will present the Catholic vision of JRR Tolkien in his classic series, the Lord of the Rings. September s meeting will explore The Hobbit, October The Fellowship of the Ring Book One and in November, The Fellowship of the Ring Book Two. Four more sessions will be offered in the Spring covering Two Towers and Return of the King. Kids activities, BBQ, Pull Tabs, Raffles, Mass, Chicken Dinner, Live Music and Fireworks! We are adding a new way to volunteer this year! We are asking parishioners to make up baskets to raffle off to help raise funds to keep our Parish thriving. Baskets can be any theme you desire and we are asking they are at least worth $40 to $50 (the more they are worth the more our parish will make). We also encourage groups of adult/kids who are friends, families or anyone to put baskets together. This would be a fun summer project for everyone.
