2 29th Sunday In Ordinary Time October 16, 2016 Dear Friends in Christ, It is remarkable that we celebrate the 90th anniversary of World Mission Sunday in this, the Year of Mercy. The Gospel calls us to bring the Good News to all nations, showing mercy and offering salvation to all humanity. In his message for World Mission Sunday, celebrated this year on October 23rd, Pope Francis wrote: When mercy encounters a person, it brings deep joy to the Father s heart; for from the beginning the Father has lovingly turned towards the most vulnerable, because his greatness and power are revealed precisely in his capacity to identify with the young, the marginalized and the oppressed (cf. Deut 4:31; Ps 86:15; 103:8; 111:4) All peoples and cultures have the right to receive the message of salvation which is God s gift to every person. This is all the more necessary when we consider how many injustices, wars, and humanitarian crises still need resolution. Missionaries know from experience that the Gospel of forgiveness and mercy can bring joy and reconciliation, justice and peace. Many living in over 1,111 mission territories worldwide will only encounter Christ through the work of missionaries. These men and women tirelessly proclaim the Gospel, baptize new believers, celebrate the Eucharist, and care for their flocks, in all circumstances. While many of us cannot travel to the ends of the earth to share the Gospel, we can foster a missionary spirit and offer generously our prayers and support. As Pope Francis states: Let us not close our hearts within our own particular concerns, but let us open them to all of humanity. Please prayerfully consider making a generous sacrificial offering on October 23rd for World Mission Sunday. These offerings, made through the Society for the Propagation of the Faith, enable missionaries to show God s great mercy in Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Pacific Islands, and all the ends of the earth. Magnificat Women s Bible Study, Woman, Called by Name for Such a Time as This, a scripture study of notable women in the Bible, facilitated by Dawn Bouché. Come join us for the Fall session on Wednesdays, 10:00 a.m. 12:00 Noon starting now through November 16, 2016 at the Catholic Renewal Center, 1406 S. Sappington Road in Crestwood. This series will focus on women in the Old Testament. The Winter session, from January 11 March 15, 2017, will focus on notable women of the New Testament. Let Us Pray For Our NATION October 23rd is World Mission Sunday. In announcing his decision to declare a Holy Year of Mercy, Pope Francis said, Dear brothers and sisters, I have often thought about how the Church might make clear its mission of being a witness to mercy. Supporting the young churches throughout the world with your prayers and generous gifts is indeed a merciful witness of this mission. The collection for World Mission Sunday will help missionaries offer the poor of these areas practical help as they share the mercy of God. It will ensure the development of local dioceses, and support the work of priests, religious and lay leaders who serve those on the margins and in most need. Extend your merciful witness to the whole world through your gift to the collection for the Society for the Propagation of the Faith! Let us pray that all of our God given liberties will be respected and protected in law. Pray the rosary for nine days, or you many want to continue praying the rosary every day, until November 9, God Bless America. BIRTHRIGHT CARD and GAME PARTY Wednesday October 27th The Friends of Birthright will be hosting their annual Fall Card and Game Party on Wednesday, October 27 th at Westborough Country Club.
