2 17th Sunday In Ordinary Time July 30, 2017 FROM THE DESK OF FR. FALLON Happy Sunday, All! What's your prized possession? Your car, house, an expensive heirloom? Or maybe it's a person, a dream, or even a little knickknack with a special memory? Please place it in the offertory basket. Okay, okay, so maybe don't place it in the offertory (especially if it's a spouse or your kid), but do you see what I mean? It's hard for us to relinquish control over the things we prize most! And then there are the bad things, that control us at times... both good and bad, can keep us from true freedom. Jesus' parable in today's Gospel (Matthew 13) helps us to see that HE is the Pearl of Great Price. Are we willing to offer to the Lord anything in order to find Him? Are you able to offer up what is necessary to buy the field so you can get the Pearl? Good things to pray about. You're doing great! Peace and love to you! Fr. St. Alphonsus Liguori Abortion and Putting Our Faith Into Action In a culture and world that is hungry for the Truth, we are often challenged to put our faith into action. For example, many of our politicians profess their Catholic faith, but try to divorce the faith which they proclaim from their policies, particularly as this relates to LIFE issues. However, as Christ s followers and as Catholics, we are called to integrate our faith into all aspects of our lives. In fact, we are called to make our faith evident in all our actions and decisions. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus tells us not to hide our light under a bushel basket, but let our light shine before others (Mt 5:15-16). Defense of the unborn, the most vulnerable and defenseless human beings in our society, is undoubtedly the most important aspect of integrating our faith and actions. After all, LIFE is the most important gift that God gives us!
