2 31st Sunday In Ordinary Time October 30, 2016 Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, In the United States today, numerous Catholic sisters, brothers, and religious order priests past age 70 benefit from the Retirement Fund for Religious collection. Donations to this special collection provide funding that helps religious communities care for senior members and plan for long-term retirement needs. On the weekend of November 6, all parishes in the Archdiocese of St. Louis will take up the annual collection for the Retirement Fund for Religious, an opportunity for you to acknowledge the thousands of senior Catholic sisters, brothers, and religious order priests for their faithful service. Whether or not we realize it, we are all beneficiaries of the tremendous contributions these women and men have made to the Church in the United States. Through hard work, prayer, and sacrifice, they built Catholic schools and hospitals, initiated programs to promote social justice, and ministered to the neediest among us. Today, many religious communities struggle to care for their elderly members. Elder sisters, brothers, and religious order priests dedicated their lives to service and prayer, and some lack adequate retirement savings. Increasing health-care costs and decreased income make it difficult to provide necessary medical care, costly medications and basic services. Please consider making a financial gift to assist with the care of our senior Catholic sisters, brothers, and religious order priests. Many thanks for considering this request. 4 October 30, 2016 News Around Town PREISTHOOD SUNDAY OCTOBER 30 This Sunday is a special day set aside to honor priesthood in the United States. A day to reflect and affirm the role of the priesthood in the life of the church as a central one. Please thank your priest for answering Yes to God s call to the priesthood and for the care they take of each and every parish family. From Pope Francis: I invite everyone to pray to the Heart of Jesus and to support with closeness and affection your priests, so that they always reflect the image of that heart full of merciful love. Election Eve Mass and Rosary Attention married couples - enjoy a 'date day' and 'Walk in the Park'. Together, the two of you walk in a nature setting and will remember several of your greatest times together beginning from when you were dating until now. Sunday, November 6, a walk of up to 1 1/2 miles (can be less if you wish) begins with your arrival between 1:00PM and 1:30PM at Powder Valley Nature Center, Cragwold Road, St. Louis, MO (off Geyer Road near West Watson Road). At the end of the walk, water and a snack will be provided. The married couple 'Walk in the Park' is sponsored by the couples and priests of Gateway Marriage Encounter and is free of charge. St. Gabriel Church, 6300 Nottingham at Tamm Archbishop Robert J. Carlson will be the principal celebrant at the 7:30 pm mass on Monday, Nov. 7, as we pray for respect for life, traditional marriage, religious freedom and peace. Rosary is at 7:00 pm. followed by mass at 7:30 pm. A special Image of Our Lady of Guadalupe will be at the mass. It has been blessed and touched to the original Tilma in Mexico City and has been blessed in Rome by St. John Paul II. You are invited to touch the Image before or after mass.
