Putting her trust in God s providence, she gives away all she has to live on. I want, however, to turn your attention to what Jesus does in the gospel. Quite simply, he notices her. Surrounded by a large crowd and in the midst of all the comings and goings of the temple, Jesus still sees the tiniest of actions - the widow s offering to the treasury. God misses nothing, however insignificant. This brings me to the matter of prayer. Do you ever think that your prayers are too small even for God s ears? Think again! Sister Wendy Becket writes: So many people seem to feel that their lack of time and all the other testing conditions of life somehow invalidate their prayer. Not so! Take those poor crumbs of minutes and hold them out trustfully to the Father. You are there in prayer for Him to look on you and to love you The gospel is clear. Jesus observes both the long prayers of the scribes and the large sums of the rich. But it is the widow s mere penny that holds his gaze. YOUTH CORNER Malo e Lelei and greetings to you all. Our Youth program is running well for this term and I would like to acknowledge everyone's prayer and support in different ways. Last Saturday, we hosted a group from Wellington who organize the Life Teen Summer Camp. They came over to promote to our young people this great adventure with Christ. We started with the Mass and they led the choir. 50 young people attended and parents to help out with the food. It was interesting that after that program, more people were willing to participate. We had started raising funds and had planned to have one each week until we got the whole amount required. Any donation towards our fundraising for this event is more than welcome and anyone who can offer our young people jobs will be very much appreciated. Wishing our senior students who will start their exams next week all the best and always have faith that you can do it. Have a blessed week and God bless. CLIMATE CHANGE : BE INFORMED, BE INVOLVED. An investment in something that works well rightfully brings a sense of inner satisfaction to our hearts. Indeed, successful educational outcomes for young Māori are good for all New Zealanders. All of our Catholic schools serve Māori students well. In our Diocese we are also blessed to host the nation s two Catholic Māori Boarding Schools: Hāto Pāora College and St Joseph s Māori Girls College. In them, staff are bringing about outstanding results with the students they nurture, teach and form. I think there is a desire which resonates deep within all New Zealanders to foster educational achievement among all families of our nation. All of us as a community of believers, as iwi whakapono can contribute to this vision and make it real. For this reason the annual special collection for education of our young Māori is something that I hope will appeal to everyone. Your donation, no matter the amount, is an investment for a vibrant, working, diverse, faith-filled NZ. The Collection will be on November 15, 2015 Thank you.
