2 Te Koropiko Liturgy Centre, Catholic Diocese of Auckland Keeping you in the Loop September 2018 Greetings and welcome to this issue of Te Koropiko (the loop). Through this newsletter we hope to keep parish priests, parish staff, liturgy committees and others involved in liturgical ministries informed of upcoming events, planned workshops, new resources, and news on the liturgical front. Catechists Mass St Patrick s Cathedral Saturday 27 October, 5.30pm The Catechists Mass celebrates all who are involved in catechesis throughout the Diocese. The definition of Catechist is broad and includes all people who in any way foster and encourage faith. It includes musicians, choir leaders and choirs, readers, ministers of Holy Communion, Leaders of Liturgy of the Word with Children, Liturgy Committees and any people who lead any faith formation in any way in their parish. Please ensure your parish is well represented. How are you going with copyright? Over the past few months Tina has been out in parishes assisting with copyright, what it means, why we do it and how it is done. Our team at the Liturgy Centre work with parishes to help achieve copyright compliance with regard to the music copied for Masses. Copyright sessions can be done one to one or in a group setting. 4 Book Review The Hospitality of Ministry The Hospitality of Ministry Exercising Christian Ministry with a Trinitarian Heart By David Ranson St. Paul s Publications 2012 Society of St Paul The centrality of the Trinity to our life of faith, and its fundamental importance to our life of ministry cannot be underestimated. The above is the opening line to Ranson s book The Ministry of Hospitality: Exercising Christian Ministry with a Trinitarian Heart. On the cover of the book is Rublev s classic icon of the trinity and throughout the book Ranson s aim is for the reader to approach, understand and experience ministry with a Trinitarian heart, which he goes into detail explaining. This may sound easy but all throughout this title Ranson challenges the readers understanding of ministry and introduces a more fundamental Trinitarian model, which is firmly established on the relationship of the Trinity. Ranson goes on to explain, Understanding of God as Trinity teaches us that we are made for relationship, that we exist in relationship or not at all, that we find our meaning in our interaction with others. This book is full of reflection questions that requires careful consideration as a minister in Christian ministry. Questions such as, what does it mean to be a minister of the gospel today? How can we minister most effectively to our people? Can our Christian faith survives in this millennium? Ranson in this book pulls together writings and resources from well known theologians to back up some of his thoughts on ministry. Some of these theologians include St. John Paul II, Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI and well known German reformed theologian and professor of Systematic Theology Prof. Jurgen Molmann. I highly recommend this book to ALL who are engaged in any sort of Church ministry, it is a reminder that those who enter into ministry are not there for himself, herself, or personal gain but are like the Trinity, firmly established in the need to be constantly in relationship with God and with all those that surround us. This book without a doubt is a valuable resource for ministry and will be a perfect addition to parish and ministers lay and ordained bookshelves. Dr. David Ranson is a priest of the Diocese of Broken Bay, Australia and is Parish Priest of Holy Name, Wahroonga, and Vicar General of the Diocese. He was ordained in 1992 in the Cistercian monastery of Tarrawarra Abbey. For many years, he has lectured through the Sydney College of Divinity at the Catholic Institute of Sydney, and is well known for his writing and lecturing throughout Australia and New Zealand in issues of spiritual and pastoral formation, and on the implications of sexual abuse within the Church.
