The Memorial of Our Lady of the Rosary is October 7 th and October is traditionally the month of the rosary. It has become tradition for the middle school students to help plan and prepare for a school Living Rosary in October. On October 25 th, at 8:50am in the Church, our School will pray the rosary together. Each student will get a bead and is in charge of starting the prayer and together we will pray. As a school, we come together to start each day in prayer. During this time we have school announcements, hear a Bible story, reflect on the story, celebrate, and pray together. There are few things more touching than listening to a child stand up, state their name, and then share what they want to pray for that day. We have been able to create that safe space where our students feel comfortable and want to share and pray for the joys and sorrows they are experiencing. They are learning to stand firm in their faith and seek God together. If you are able, please join us on October 25 th, in the Church to participate as the School prays the rosary together. Becky Kennedy, Principal Volunteer Opportunity Forms Please return your Volunteer Opportunity Forms. You may drop them in the collection basket during Mass, or return them to the Church Office. The meetings are facilitated by Rev. Gary Mueller, Chaplain and Bereavement Coordinator. Please call Sue at for more information. About Liturgy: Liturgical centers are focal points where specific liturgical actions take place. For Mass, the liturgical centers are three: the altar table, the presider s chair, and the ambo. Ambo is a word derived from the Greek meaning reading table, which is the place from where the Scriptures are proclaimed as well as possibly the responsorial psalm, homily, and prayer of the faithful. When baptisms take place, the baptismal font is a liturgical center. In a cathedral, there is the special chair for the bishop, his seat of authority. LIGHT FOR THE WEEK: In this week s Gospel, the Pharisee and the tax collector address God in prayer. The Pharisee s prayer was about justifying himself. The tax collector s prayer differed - his prayer was turned toward God and he opens himself in humility to receive God s mercy. Today, we are asked to be our true selves before God. There s great hope in this Gospel for all of us, for we are all sinners th Sunday in Ordinary Time We pray for those in need. May the Lord comfort them in their time of sickness and bless those who care for them. 5 Discipleship Faith In Action Stewardship Thought for whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and the one who humbles himself will be exalted. - Luke 18:14 Pride and ego is the root cause of most of our sins. Thinking your time is so valuable, your talent is better than anyone else and your money gives you status is another way of making those things gods before God. Remember all those gifts were God-given. Instead, we should be humbled by God s abundant generosity and our hearts should be filled with gratitude. Financial Stewardship Collection totals for Oct. 15 th & 16 th, 2016: Weekly Actual: $ 9,564 Weekly Requirement for October: $ 14,470 Fiscal YTD Actuals: $206,843 Fiscal YTD Requirement: $227,410 Thank you for your generosity to Our Lady of the Lake! Please be as generous as you are able. Thank you.
