Dear Brothers and Sisters, - Matthew 28:20 The life of Saint Teresa of Calcutta helps us to better understand the mission Jesus left for his disciples and each of us. Saint Teresa could be tough as nails when it came to dealing with and seeking government assistance for her people on the streets and allies of Calcutta. She became a stand-in for Jesus and we are called to do the same. We are called to do what Jesus can no longer do for them. Memorial Day Mass Monday, May 29 th 9:00am Our Lady of the Lake Cemetery OLL Cemetery is located one mile north of the Church, at the corner of Game Farm Road and Commerce Blvd. (County Road 110). In the event of rain, Mass will be in the Church. We are in need of additional Communion Ministers, Altar Servers, and Sacristans for the 5:00pm Mass. If you can help with these ministries, please contact Char at x 163 or cnee@ourladyofthelake.com. Thank you! Few of us are called or gifted to do what Saint Teresa did. But all of us have been called and gifted in some way to stand-in for Jesus, whether this be in our home, in the work place, or the classroom. In other words, each of us has been called and empowered by our Baptism and Confirmation to carry the message for Jesus in some way for the good of all. From a practical point of view, this is what the Feast of the Ascension is all about. It s about taking to heart the words Jesus spoke to his disciples just before ascending to his Father. He said: When the Holy Spirit comes upon you, you will be filled with power, and you will be witness for me to the end of the earth. It s about taking to heart the words of Jesus to his disciples in his Sermon on the Mount: In the same way, your light must shine before people, so that they will see the good things you do and praise your Father in heaven. OLL OPEN Come out and join us for our 4 th annual Golf Tournament on Friday, June 9 th, to raise money for Our Lady of the Lake School. 100% of all proceeds raised from this event will be used to fund the School and enhance its educational programs. This event is always a fun time, but we re changing things up a bit this year: The event is at Pioneer Creek in Maple Plain The format is a 2-person scramble Cost of event lowered to $135 per golfer We ll still have a prize for the team with the lowest score, but we ll also have low score prizes for the following: Senior Team (both players over age 65) Ladies Team (both players are female) Parent-Child Team (Fathers, Mothers, Daughters or Sons of any age) Register online at ollopen.com. Mystery: The experience of mystery which liturgy offers is found in its God-consciousness and God-centeredness. One should be able to sense something special (and nothing trivial) in everything that is seen and heard, touched and smelled, and tasted in liturgy. (Environment and Art in Catholic Worship) All of us have been baptized into one and the same Spirit. That same Spirit, the Advocate, our comfort and refreshment, was given as a gift to the disciples to strengthen them to go forth in the name of the Lord, to renew the face of the earth (Ordo). As God s holy people, we are enlivened by the Holy Spirit. Happy Pentecost! Light for the Week: The Easter season shows us how to live as people of joy. How can you continue the spirit of this season in your life, so that others will know the joy of the Gospel? What consolation does it give you to know that Christ is with us always? Do visitors to your parish sense the joy of the community when they are greeted? Council of Catholic Women The Council of Catholic Women and PennyWise Thrift Store ended the year by making annual donations, including $17,576 to Our Lady of the Lake Church. Other parish programs including the Youth Group/Mission Trip, Faith Formation, Vacation Bible School, Parish Nurse Program, Parish Adult Education, and OLL School received donations totaling nearly $3,000. In addition, the organization gave $900 to programs in the greater community including WeCAN, WeCAB, the Gillespie Center, Sharing and Caring Hands, and St. Joseph s Home for Children. National Council of Catholic Women programs including Water for Life, Refugee Women, Help-A-Child, and Annual Giving were gifted a total of $600, and the Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women programs, Respect Life and the Madonna Plan, received $300. Throughout the year, the CCW and PennyWise also gave $1,000 to the Westonka Food Shelf and contributed to various other programs. Priesthood Ordination for Deacon Jeremy Bock Deacon Jeremy Bock is being ordained on Friday, June 9 th, at 4:00pm at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary, 2830 East 4th Street, in Duluth. If possible, OLL parishioners are encouraged to attend the ordination. Please pray for him as he begins his ministry as a priest. Save the Dates! Fr. Jeremy Bock, Fr. Bryce Evans & Fr. The Minnesota Nonpublic School Accrediting Association (MNSAA) has accredited Our Lady of the Lake Catholic School in Mound for the eligibility period of 2017 to Accreditation is a voluntary method of quality assurance with a goal to evaluate, validate, and improve each school s quality. MNSAA is a federally and state-sanctioned non-profit association for accrediting nonpublic schools in the State of Minnesota. The Association's mission is to be a catalyst for enhancing the quality of nonpublic education in Minnesota through a comprehensive process of accreditation. Our agency helps schools provide quality nonpublic education for the children of Minnesota for its member schools. MNSAA is governed by a member-elected Board of Directors that bases its accreditation on a school s evaluation through a self-study process. Schools are accredited based on their compliance with a set of rigorous standards which identify essential personnel, instruction, facility, curriculum, governance, and marketing policies and practices that are considered necessary for an effective school. The accreditation process includes the creation of a visionary and focused strategic plan and an on-site visit by a team of educators from member schools. Accreditation with MNSAA relies heavily on how the individual school defines its mission and the way it seeks to accomplish that mission. MNSAA is pleased to have Our Lady of the Lake Catholic School join some of the more than 170 accredited schools that make up the Association. MNSAA salutes OLL School s commitment to providing outstanding education to the children of this community. MNSAA will continue to provide guidance to Our Lady of the Lake Catholic School through an annual review of its strategic plan. OLL Cemetery Information Cut flowers & plants may be placed on the graves of your loved ones ten days before Memorial Day. Please remove the cut flowers & plants within ten days after Memorial Day. Blood Drive Results The results for the Blood Drive on May 1 st at St. John s Lutheran Church: 11 donors deferred, 13 no-shows, 16 walk-ins, 2 cancels, and 6 first-time donors for Memorial Blood Center. The Blood Center collected 55 whole blood donations and 9 double red cell donations, for a total of 73 units of blood. The Blood Center estimates that potentially 183 lives will be saved. Thank you to all the donors who contributed to this drive! The next Mound-Westonka area Blood Drive is Thursday, July 6 th, at Mount Olive Lutheran Church.
