The devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus was very important in my family. Each of us kids at birth was dedicated to the Sacred Heart. The revelation of God in the Scriptures is that He is a God of Love. Jesus reveals God as love in the revelation of His own heart His Sacred Heart. The image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is a very common one in churches and in homes. It depicts Jesus with a heart which is burning. This communicates a great truth that Jesus heart burns with love for each of us. What a tremendous joy and consolation that should bring us. May each of us know deep in our hearts that burning love that Jesus has for us and through that love may we be inspired to love one another as He has commanded us. This Sunday at the 10:30am Mass, we are celebrating Deacon Del s 35 th anniversary of ordination to the diaconate. He has been a tremendous blessing to our parish in his time here and I am grateful for his ministry and his friendship. Deacon Del lives a life given over to serving God and his people, especially those who are most in need. Please join me in congratulating him on his anniversary and welcoming the members of his family who join us. We will have a reception for him after the 10:30am Mass. God bless, Fr. Last week in Part 1, we were introduced to the many references to Mary in Scriptures. In Part 2, we will explore the importance of the Annunciation and Mary s fiat that she is the Handmaid of the Lord. We ll also learn about typology and how some women in the Old Testament prefigured the birth of a savior through a woman. Are you having difficulty in accepting the loss and coping with the change that it has made in your life? Grief takes many forms and can be expressed in many different ways. The process can be very long and painful, and may not be immediately evident. This support group is meant to provide a safe and confidential setting to share your story and listen to others who may be experiencing similar difficulties. 3 Liturgy Seeking God, Encountering God Tenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Every family has some type of dysfunction. No doubt each of us can admit to our personal dysfunctional behaviors and acknowledge times of crises, at times embarrassing. Jesus, in today s Gospel, is labeled insane so we are in good company. The crazy Jesus associates with the downtrodden, the weak, the sinners and seeks to heal us of what is our own insanity. Our insanity may be of the garden variety: self-centeredness marked by I strain, greed, and who knows what. But hold on! Here is a model penitential rite for the weekend: Father of compassion and forgiveness, Lord, have mercy. Lord Jesus, our Redeemer and Savior, Christ, have mercy. The OLL 5K and Running of the Bays Half Marathon is almost here! Similar to past years, we are teaming up with The Running of the Bays Half Marathon, which is on Saturday, September 8, at 7:30am. Please note that this is not the same weekend as the Incredible Festival. All proceeds from the 5K will continue to go to Our Lady of the Lake s Incredible Festival. The 5K Family Fun Run is for all ages and paces! Strollers are welcome at the back of the 5K start. The 5K will start from Grandview Middle School at 7:35am. Your victory will come with a grand finish at Bethel Methodist Church in downtown Mound.
