Their care of the sick and the elderly in our area is outstanding. Thanks to your generosity they took home $2, to help them in their work and they are truly grateful for your kindness and generosity. Thursday of this week is Thanksgiving Day. It is a day set aside to remember that all that we have and are is a gift from our loving God. There is no better way to give thanks to God than by celebrating the Eucharist. Mass on Thanksgiving Day will be at 9:30 a.m. Bring a wrapped loaf of bread with you to the Thanksgiving Day Mass. The bread will be placed in large baskets near the altar. Following the Prayer after Communion, the bread will be blessed and distributed to those at Mass. People receive a loaf brought by someone else. Share this bread at the Thanksgiving table keeping in mind the people of the entire parish. Today we end our year-long, Sunday-by-Sunday hearing of Luke s Gospel. Luke has called us to examine our lives to determine whether or not we are living as true disciples of the Lord. We ve heard about the brevity of life, about the need for discipline and humility and also for hospitality and enterprise. Almost all of our values have been called into question. Wealth and power can ruin our chances for entering the kingdom. So can indecisiveness. Also at the forefront of Luke s Gospel are the need for prayer and the power of the Spirit. This is a Gospel that begins with shepherds receiving the good news directly from heaven. It ends with a thief being welcomed by Jesus into paradise. The Parish Office will be closed on Thursday and Friday in observance of Thanksgiving and I hope you all have a Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving!

He is presently the assistant pastor at Immaculate Conception Parish in Scranton, PA. He is an entertaining and encouraging speaker leaving people feeling better about themselves, life, and God. With the joy of Christmas quickly approaching, the Social Concerns Committee of Divine Mercy Parish is happy to tell you of a few opportunities for all of us to make the Christmas season a little more joyful this year. First, like last year, Divine Mercy Parish will display a Christmas tree in the vestibule of the church. This Christmas Giving Tree will give everyone the opportunity to remove an ornament from it. Each ornament will be labeled with a child s age and a suggestion for either an article of clothing or for an age-appropriate toy to be donated to a local, underprivileged child. Please take an ornament from the tree to help brighten a child s heart this Christmas. You may then deliver the new, UNWRAPPED gift to the church or the parish office anytime from now until December 18th. Your next opportunity to help comes with the distribution of these gifts. All of the gifts will be collected and delivered to the University of Scranton on Sunday, December 18th and Monday, December 19th. This process requires the energy of all who are able to help deliver the gifts, unload trucks, unbag many donations, and arrange the gifts for the give-away day, which is Tuesday, December 20th at the University of Scranton. Volunteers are needed for all three days. Please contact the Parish office at if you would like to volunteer.
