IMPORTANT NOVEMBER DATES November 16 - Women's Guild meeting - 7:00 p.m. PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY will not meet on Halloween, Monday, October 31, A FRESH PERSPECTIVE ON THE SUNDAY READINGS HIS WORD TODAY by Rev. William J. Reilly Thirty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time October 30, 2016 When he reached the place, Jesus looked up and said, Zacchaeus, come down quickly, for today I must stay at your house. And he came down quickly and received him with joy For the Son of Man has come to seek and save what was lost. But you have mercy on all, because you can do all things, and you overlook people s sins that they may repent. For you love all things that are, and loathe nothing that you have made. The tree climbing Zacchaeus went out of his way to see Jesus. How surprised he must have been, when after seeing him, Jesus invited Himself to visit his home. We can easily form a picture of the event, the first scene at the tree, the second dining at Zacchaeus home as we overhear the conversation, the murmuring and humble confession. We too, seek Jesus, and sometimes don t know where He is in our life. Look up, look around, look for Him in our church tabernacles. Don t you see? Jesus is always seeking us, is present to us, asking us to bring to Him what we have and who we are. We are His brothers and sisters, and sit at table with Him both in our homes as well as at worship at mass. He knows us as we are, and yet wants to sit with us, calling, healing and making us holy.

Spreading the Gospel and the message of our Catholic faith is the vital mission of the Catholic Media and Communications of the Diocese of Scranton. This is why we provide a wide-ranging media program that offers print, online and broadcasting services throughout our 11-county Diocese. The message is delivered through The Catholic Light, the official newspaper of the Diocese which is delivered to 46,000 households; Catholic Television (CTV), the Diocesan television station; and the Diocesan website. CTV reaches more than 235,000 homes, hospitals and nursing facilities broadcasting the daily Mass and many other faith-based programs. The Diocesan website is an excellent online resource for information about life and events in the Diocese, including videos of the daily Mass and the special liturgies celebrated at St. Peter s Cathedral and Bishop Bambera s homilies.

May the Lord bless them and their families on this most special occasion. Thank you for your generous response to the Society for the Propagation of the Faith last weekend on World Mission Sunday. Our parish raised $1, While some go to serve in other countries to develop the Church and serve its people, all of us are called to pray and support the Missions from right where we live. To continue answering this call, download the Missio App which makes it possible for you to meet and support religious Sisters and Brothers, priests and dedicated lay leaders who provide help and hope in some of the world s poorest places. These missionaries provide essential education and health care, social outreach and advocacy, and pastoral service. They address basic human needs, while in every moment offering spiritual comfort and support to the suffering and the marginalized. Join them in mission every day as you joined them this past World Mission Sunday. Tuesday, November 1 is the Solemnity of All Saints and a Holy Day of Obligation. On this day we remember all the saints, those known to us and those known to God alone, who have followed the Lord Jesus on the way to the cross and who await the resurrection on the last day. These are the faithful disciples who intercede on our behalf before the throne of grace. Masses will be celebrated on Monday, October 31 at 5:00 p.m. and on Tuesday, November 1 at 12:10 and 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 2 is the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed (All Souls Day). Mass will be offered on All Souls Day at 12:10 p.m. During the month of November nine Masses will be offered for the deceased remembered on the altar. There is an envelope in your packet for this purpose or pick up and envelope on the table in the center vestibule of the Church. All Souls Day bids us to pray not only for our cherished loved ones, but for those often ignored or forgotten: victims of war and violence, little ones crushed by hunger and poverty, those sacrificed while serving others, killed for Christian witness, truly our brothers and sisters. Friday of this week is the first Friday of November. Join us for Mass at 12:10 and lunch afterward in the Parish Center. On Sunday, November 13 at the 11:00 a.m. Mass we will remember and pray for all who have died during the past year at Divine Mercy. Invitations for this Mass have been sent out. If for some reason you did not receive an invitation, contact the parish office and tell us of your intention to attend this Mass and the luncheon to follow in the Parish Center. Thank you in advance for your gift to the victims of Hurricane Matthew in the second collection this weekend. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops asked for this collection to provide humanitarian aid to the people of the Caribbean and the United States impacted by Hurricane Matthew. (Whatever you do for the least of my brothers and sister, you do for Me, says the Lord). Have a great week!
