1 Recitation English : Class 3 & 4 Date & Time : Sunday, 21 August 16 at 8.30 a.m. THE LIVING GOD He who is in you and outside you, Who works through all hands, Who walks on all feet, Whose body are all ye, Him worship, and break all other idols! He who is at once the high and low, The sinner and the saint, Both God and worm, Him worship visible, knowable, real, omnipresent, Break all other idols! In whom is neither past life Nor future birth nor death, In whom we always have been And always shall be one, Him worship. Break all other idols! Ye fools! who neglect the living God, And His infinite reflections with which the world is full. While ye run after imaginary shadows, That lead alone to fights and quarrels, Him worship, the only visible! Break all other idols! (Ref. In search of God and other poems Swami Vivekananda Advaita Ashrama) Recitation English : Class 5 & 6 Date & Time : Wednesday, 24 August 16 at 8.30 a.m. INDIA - THE FOCUS OF THE DAY Shall India die? Then from the world all spirituality will be extinct, all moral perfection will be extinct, all sweet-souled sympathy for religion will be extinct, all ideality will be extinct; and in its place will reign the duality of lust and luxury as the male and female deities, with money as its priest, fraud, force and competition its ceremonies, and the human soul its sacrifice.such a thing can never be. The power of suffering is infinitely greater than the power of doing; the power of love is infinitely of greater potency than the power of hatred. The longest night seems to be passing away, the sorest trouble seems to be coming to an end at last, the seeming corpse appears to be awaking and a voice is coming to us away back where history and even tradition fails to peep into the gloom of the past, coming down from there, reflected as it were from peak to peak of the infinite Himalaya of knowledge, and of love, and of work. India, this motherland of ours a voice is coming unto us, gentle, firm, and yet unmistakable in its utterances, and is gaining volume as days pass by, and behold, the sleeper is awakening! Like a breeze from the Himalayas, it is bringing life into the almost dead bones and muscles, the lethargy is passing away, and only the blind cannot see, or the perverted will not see, that she is awakening, this motherland of ours, from her deep long sleep. None can resist her any more; never is she going to sleep any more; no outward powers can hold her back any more. [ My India,The India Eternal page 50 Ramakrishna Mission Institute of Culture]
2 Recitation English : Class 7 & 8 Date & Time : Wednesday, 24 August 16 at 2.30 p.m. FAITH IN ONE S SELF Faith, faith, faith in ourselves, faith, faith in God this is the secret of geatness. If you have faith in all the three hundred and thirty millions of your mythological gods, and in all the gods which foreigners have now and again introduced into your midst, and still have no faith in yourselves, there is no salvation for you. The history of the world is the history of a few men who had faith in themselves.that faith calls out the divinity within. You can do anything. You fail only when you do not strive sufficiently to manifest infinite power. As soon as a man or a nation loses faith, death comes. He is an atheist who does not believe in himself. The old religions said that he was an atheist who did not believe in God. The new religion says that he is the atheist who does not believe in himself. Never think there is anything impossible for the soul. It is the greatest heresy to think so. If there is sin, this is the only sin to say that you are weak, or others are weak. Whatever you think, that you will be. If you think yourselves weak, weak you will be; if you think yourselves strong, strong you will be. Never mind the struggles, the mistakes. I never heard a cow tell a lie, but it is only a cow never a man. So never mind these failures, these little backslidings; hold the ideal a thousand times, and if you fail a thousand times, make the attempt once more. The remedy for weakness is not brooding over weakness, but thinking of strength. This is the great fact : strength is life, weakness is death. Strength is felicity, life eternal, immortal; weakness is constant strain and misery: weakness is death. To succeed, you must have tremendous perseverance, tremendous will. I will drink the ocean, says the persevering soul, at my will mountains will crumble up. Have that sort of energy, that sort of will, work hard, and you will reach the goal. [ My India, The India Eternal page 108 Ramakrishna Mission Instit] Recitation ENGLISH : Class 9 & 10 Date & Time : Saturday, 27 August 16 at 2.30 p.m. EXPANSION IS LIFE I am thoroughly convinced that no individual or nation can live by holding itself apart from the community of others, and whenever such an attempt has been made under false ideas of greatness, policy, or holiness the result has always been disastrous to the secluding one. Give and take is the law, and if India wants to raise herself once more, it is absolutely necessary that she brings out her treasures and throws them broadcast among the nations of the earth, and in return be ready to receive what others have to give her.expansion is life, contraction is death. Love is life and hatred is death. Do any deserve liberty who are not ready to give it to others? Let us calmly and in a manly fashion go to work, instead of dissipating our energy in unnecessary frettings and fumings. I, for one, thoroughly believe that no power in the universe can withhold from any one anything he really deserves. The past was great no doubt, but I sincerely believe that the future will be more glorious still. It is life to do good, it is death not to do good to others.ninety per cent of human brutes you see are dead, are ghosts for none lives, my boys, but he who loves. Feel, my children, feel; feel for the poor, the ignorant, the downtrodden, feel till the heart stops and the brain reels and you think you will go mad. Be not afraid, my children. Look not up in that attitude of fear towards that infinite starry vault as if it would crush you. Wait! In a few hours more the whole of it will be under your feet. Wait money does not pay, nor name; fame does not pay, nor learning. It is love that pays; it is character that cleaves its way through adamantine walls of difficulties. Have fire and spread all over.work, work. Be the servant while leading, be unselfish, and never listen to one friend in private accusing another. Have infinite patience, and success is yours. Onward, my brave boys money or no money men or no men! Have you love? Have you God? Onward, and forward to the breach, you are irresistible. 5 SIT & DRAW : CLASS 5 & 6 Date & Time : Sunday, 28 August 16 at 2.30 p.m. At Kanyakumari This was a time when our country was in a pitiable condition. She was under the foreign rule. People did not have courage. Neither did they have faith in their own strength. The misery of the common people was acute. Starvation was common and many could not eat to their fill. Only a very few got an opening for education. People had suffered long and become inert. (Abject misery of the country haunted Swamiji. He was groping for a way out. At last he saw the light. At Kanyakumari on the last rock of India in meditation) Swamiji was afflicted with this allround suffering of the people and grieved for total degeneration of the country. He wept like a child at the misery of the poor. He brooded over the glory of the ancient India against her present decadence. He spent sleepless nights pondering over ways to regenerate India. He travelled through the whole of the country and reached the southernmost tip of India at last. He entered the Kanyakumari temple and prostrated before the Mother. The temple is located on the brink of the sea. A few rocks crop out of the sea at little distance from the shore. It is an endless mass of water beyond. Swamiji began swimming in that direction and reached the last rock of India. He climbed and sat over it. He looked on at the mainland India and began reflecting on her. He wept bitterly as he thought of her. All of a sudden, the wailing monk sank in deep meditation. And the way to ressurect India was revealed unto him.m He saw the light and direction vividly. (Vivekananda for Children.p15) SIT & DRAW : CLASS 7 & 8 Date & Time : Sunday, 28 August 16 at 2.30 p.m. (What a deep love Swamiji had for all He declared, "I Need no name for fame Not even wealth. I crave nothing except To give away my life in the service of men). Preaching in America Swami Vivekananda became world famous with his maiden speech on the first day of the Parliament of Religious at Chicago. The following day large fascimiles of a photograph of Swamiji were displayed on the streets of the city of Chicago. You now see the same photograph on this page. The media went crazy in praise of him. This was a time when the people of the West usually looked down upon India. Having seen and heard Swamiji, a deep respect for the Indian religion and civilisation began to grow in their mind. Swamiji won a high place for his motherland among the nations of the world. When the Parliament was over, he travelled far and wide in the States to deliver lectures. Many became his disciples and a few, even monks. Swamiji could never tolerate any unjust criticism or calumny about India. He used to retaliate like a lion. Once, during a sea voyage, some Christian missionary was abusing the Indians and the Hinduism. Initially Swamiji tried patiently to explain points. But the man did not relent. At last Swamiji caught the man by his neck and warned, If You dare to utter a single word more, I shall throw you overboard. The man had to beat a retreat. Later he observed on this incident as, "Religion is but mother of us. When someone abuses the mother, should a son listen to it quietly?" (Vivekananda for Children.p20)
