2 Reflections Rev. Barbara K. Gulick Most of you know by now that John Gulick suffered a fall last Sunday, June 14 th while getting ready to come to church. He suffered a shattered and dislocated hip and was transferred to the University Hospital in Columbia. He underwent surgery Wednesday and is doing as well as can be expected. He plans to be transferred to the Capital Region Rehabilitation Center in Jefferson City as soon as he is ready to begin therapy. Please keep him and Rev. Barb in your thoughts and prayers as they begin the recovery process. He is in Room 518W at the University Hospital at the time of this printing. I decided to re-run her Top 10 List from last month because it just seems appropriate right now. Blessings, Carolyn TOP 10 LIST - What I Love About Millersburg Christian Church 10. Everyone has an opinion. 9. No two opinions are alike. 8. God casts the deciding vote. 7. We are small enough to care about everyone and everything. 6. We are big enough to do big things and somehow it works out. 5. When something needs to be done, somebody always jumps in and does it. 4. The food! 3. The Fellowship! 2. The Love! 1. When the Spirit shows up in the music and laughter!!! Surely the presence of the Lord is in this place Don t Forget Bluegrass Gospel Worship Service Saturday, June 27 th from 5:00 6:00 p.m. Vacation Bible School July 31 st - 6:00 9:00 p.m. August 1 st 9:00 12:00 August 2 nd Short program during church followed by a carry-in luncheon

4 Recycling News (this article was submitted by Rita Adams, who read it in the Olivet CC newsletter. Thanks, Rita!) The city of Columbia now accepts plastics #1 through #7 for recycling at the drop-off bins around town. We re used to recycling plastic water, soda, or milk bottles (plastic #1 & #2), but this is a big step forward in recycling items such as plastic food containers for yogurt, cottage cheese, fresh fruits and veggies, as well as plastic drinking cups. So be sure to check the little number in the recycle triangle on the bottom of all plastic containers, and as always, rinse out or wash containers as necessary before tossing them in a recycling bag or bin. Did you know that plastic wrap, plastic bags, and aluminum foil or pie tins cannot be recycled through the city s recycling program. Columbia hopes to increase their diversion rate--items recycled and not placed in the landfill from 17 percent to, or above, the national average of 34 percent. Many of us braved the chilly weather (yes, it was May 31 st!) to worship outside at the beautiful Baumgartner farm. Thank you so much, Larry and Ronnie, for your hospitality and generosity and to Shannon Baumgartner, Donnie Landrum and all the others who helped prepare the delicious meat! It was a glorious day!
5 President's Ponderings by Jeff Moran This (and all) church newsletters are a good source of information about what is going on in the life of the church. Please note the special events coming up this summer, such as Vacation Bible School and the August Bluegrass Worship Service, and others. The newsletter also has information about our mission efforts and the work of the various standing committees. And, of course, we also have a church website ( and find and like us on Facebook. Please try to find events and programs that pique your interest and find ways that you can contribute your many talents. GET READY TO ROCK! Vacation Bible School! Friday, July 31 st 6-9 p.m. Saturday, Aug.1 st 9-12 a.m. Sunday, Aug.2 nd program during church Luncheon following church The theme is Outback Rock! God is ALWAYS With Us! Make plans now to attend!! The Missions Committee continues to work on Family Food Packs for the Festival of Sharing in October. In case you forgot, in June we needed cans of vegetables, cans of fruit and cans of tuna. For July we need: one pound pasta, one can of pasta sauce and one 18 ounce jar of peanut butter. Thanks for your continued support!! Thank you to my 93 year old Uncle Bud for sharing the following with me yes, he is computer savvy! Those wonderful Church Bulletins! Thank God for the church ladies with typewriters/computers! These sentences actually appeared in church bulletins or were announced at church services: The Fasting & Prayer Conference includes meals. Scouts are saving aluminum cans, bottles and other items to be recycled. Proceeds will be used to cripple children. The sermon this morning: 'Jesus Walks on the Water. The sermon tonight: Searching for Jesus.' Ladies, don't forget the rummage sale. It's a chance to get rid of those things not worth keeping around the house. Bring your husbands. Don't let worry kill you off - let the Church help. Miss Charlene Mason sang 'I will not pass this way again,' giving obvious pleasure to the congregation. For those of you who have children and don't know it, we have a nursery downstairs. Next Thursday there will be try-outs for the choir. They need all the help they can get. Irving Benson and Jessie Carter were married on October 24 in the church. So ends a friendship that began in their school days.
