2 Faith Community Presbyterian Church PAGE 2 VOLUME 41 ISSUE 10 FROM DAN S DESK Here's a special invitation for you. As we move into the fall season, we'll be looking at who we've been called to be as a faith community, and what we've been called to be about. As we do so we'll be taking a closer look at a few things. For example, consider our church's logo: Faith Community Presbyterian Church W. Ten Mile Rd. Novi, MI Tel: (248) Fax: (248) It's out there on our building, big enough for everyone traveling Ten Mile to see. It's on our stationery, our newsletter and our weekly bulletin. It's deceptively simple, which all good logos should be, but in reality is full of wonderful symbolism. All four parts of our mission statement are there: Hearing Trusting Acting Sharing We're currently exploring our logo during a four week series of presentations, and then will move on to take a 'deeper dive' into each of the mission words listed above. We're doing this because of the pivotal position we're in. Our Pastor Nominating Committee (keep praying for these hard working saints) is hard at work and so it seems natural to spend time with these nuts and bolts of our identity. So pay attention, friends, as together we explore, reaffirm, rediscover and recommit. These are exciting times and we do well to take fullest advantage of the opportunities ahead. The 31st Annual Novi-Northville CROP Hunger Walk takes place on Sunday, October 7. The event joins churches in our community to raise money for the hunger relief efforts of Church World Service, the mission arm of the National Council of Churches. The four mile Walk starts and ends at Crosspointe Meadows Church, Meadowbrook Rd., Novi. Last year, our Walk raised $13,000 for hunger relief programs around the world. Twenty-five percent of those funds stayed in our community to support Northville Civic Concern, Redford Interfaith Relief Agency, the Novi Emergency Food Program and Everyone Eats Soup Kitchen in Detroit. Walker sponsor sheets and further details will be available in the narthex on Sunday mornings. Help is also needed on the day of the Walk. Please contact Tom Anan at (248) for more information. Please continue to pray for those suffering from hunger in our world and the work of CWS. SEWING PARTY CONTINUES October 23 The next Pillowcase Partyers get-together to sew pillowcases for kids in foster care is Tuesday, October 23, from 1-3 pm. Bring your sewing machine or just join the party to help cut fabric or iron. Happily, our pillowcase stash has been depleted!! BIBLE STUDY IS CHANGING TIME! Starting Sunday, September 30th there will be a Bible Study every Sunday from 6-7:00 pm. The first topic will be an 8 week series by Dr. Paul Maier titled Christianity and the Competition. This DVD lecture series covers a variety of world religions with time for discussion. Teens are also invited and encouraged to participate - please come and bring a friend - or even your parents! If you have any questions, please see Adam or Laura Bednarek. HAVE A CHILD'S GENTLY USED HALLOWEEN COSTUME? Holidays are often difficult and disappointing for the 2,000 children who live in foster care in Wayne County. Along with First Presbyterian Church of Plymouth, we re collecting Halloween costumes (store-bought or homemade) for a Halloween Party near Eastern Market on October 18. All sizes are needed, as the children are ages 1 to 18. Please leave at church in the coat closet by Sunday, October 7. Our goal is 100 costumes! For more information, contact Val Kushman at (248) Thank you.
