Stewardship is determined by: 1) Being properly registered and active for at least three months; 2) Faithful participation at liturgies; 3) Regular and identifiable support of the parish; These criteria are used to verify parishioner status for: sponsorship; participation in sacramental, educational, pastoral and social ministries, activities and enrichment programs; and use of facilities and services. PARISH SERVICES SVdP ~ The direct Helpline Number for St. Vincent de Paul Society is Baptism ~ The next parental prep session will be held at 6:30 pm, Wednesday, June 14th, in the Church Commons. After attending this session, Baptisms may be scheduled during a daily or weekend Mass (outside of Advent & Lent), as well as at 11 am or 7 pm on Saturday, or 1pm on. Please register for the session by contacting the parish office. Godparents and grandparents are also welcome. Marriage ~ Engaged couples should contact Deacon Jim Walter at deaconjim@sjbsummerville.org to set an appointment to begin the process of preparation at least six months prior to the date of marriage. Miraculous Medal Novena ~ Mondays at. Rosary ~ in the Chapel at 9:45 on Friday. Anointing of the Sick and Pastoral Visitation ~ To arrange for a priest, deacon or lay minister to visit a loved one who is sick, homebound, or hospitalized, please contact the parish office. Because of HIPAA policies, a hospital cannot notify the church, so a family member must take the initiative. Anointing is also offered following Mass. An immediate response is not always possible, so don t wait until a crisis occurs! Cancer Support Group ~ Meets first Friday of each month at 9:30 am. Sessions are open to all. Contact Sister Carol. 3 B Prayer For Mothers lessed are You, O Lord, who formed us in our mother s womb. In good times and in bad, in sickness and in health, we belong to each other, as we belong to you, O Lord. You have entrusted Mary to us as Mother of the Church. We pray that the mother of Jesus and spouse of Joseph the craftsman find, gathered in her heart, the joys and burdens of our holy family. Even in moments of pain, she always trusted in Your providence. We ask that you guide, nurture and protect all women who daily toil, so that our domestic community can live in active harmony. We pray your blessings upon all people, but especially on our mothers today. Grant that they be women of wisdom, skilled in prayer and human kindness, strong in hope and, like Mary, artisans of authentic peace. Your compassion and thoughtfulness was truly appreciated. Urgent Food Pantry Needs! Our parish pantry is in need of nonperishable proteins. These items include, but are not limited to: SPAM, Vienna Sausages, Canned Tuna, Canned Chicken Breast, Chili with Meat and Soups containing meat. We could also use peanut butter and boxed milk such as Parmalat. For liability reasons, we cannot accept any expired or opened items. Reusable cloth grocery bags are also a huge help. Items may be brought to Sr. Carol or the Parish office. Thank you for helping us help others!

5 Faith Formation Registration We have some great things happening in Faith Formation in Academic Year! Faith Formation sessions will be moved to the St. John the Beloved campus, giving us regular use of our sacred space the church. We plan to gather each week in the church for group prayer, music and lesson. Then we will break into smaller groups to look deeper in our Catholic faith. K-5 th Graders will meet on Tuesday Evenings Session Times: 4:15-5:30 pm and 6:00-7:15 pm 6-12 th Graders will meet on Evenings Session Times: 5:30-7:00 pm Registration for Early Childhood-12th Grade is now available online along with the tentative Faith Formation calendar. St. Joseph in West Ashley has planned a beautiful memorial prayer garden and columbarium on their parish grounds. Niches for inurnment of a loved one s cremated remains are being offered for lease to Catholics within the Diocese of Charleston as well as immediate family members including non-catholics. As part of this beautiful resting place, which brings burial back to the church, is a prayer garden with the Stations of the Cross and a memorial brick walk dedicated to honoring loved ones and family. Brovey will be leading a pilgrimage to Rome on February 26 March 9, 2018 visiting Assisi, Florence, Orvieto and 5 days in Rome. The pilgrimage begins in the peaceful hillside town of St. Francis and St. Clare before continuing on to the Renaissance city of Florence. On the way to Rome we will stop in the town of Orvieto where the tradition of the Corpus Christi Eucharistic Processions began. While in Rome we will visit St. Peter s Basilica, St. John Lateran, St. Paul Outside the- Wall, St. Mary Major, the Holy Stairs, St. Clemente, St. Maria in Trastevere, St. Cecilia, the Gesu, the catacombs to name just a few. We will also attend a Papal Audience with Pope Francis and Scavi Tour (a tour beneath St. Peter s to the very tomb of the Prince of the Apostles) and much more. Scripture Reflection he word church finds its T roots in the Greek word ecclesia. However, a correct translation of that word is actually an assembly of people, called out of their homes into a public meeting place. Thus, the Church is really the people who make it up; the use of the term in relation to a building has developed through time, but we must never forget that it is we who are indeed the Church. That is a basic part of something St. Peter writes in our Second Reading. Peter says, like living stones, let yourselves be built into a spiritual house, in reference to the members. He is saying in effect that we are called to build a church with living stones, namely ourselves. We all also understand that for a structure to be most effective, every element is needed to keep it strong. We, as the Church and as our parish, are no different. We need each person, each part of what is really the Church, to be like a living stone, active and involved. We are a faith community, not just a community of worshipers, but a community to reach out and serve others. To really do that we need each member to offer something of himself or herself. In a message to a celebration about the Church being the people, Pope Francis said, It is isolation that harms, not sharing. Being among people does not mean merely being open toward others, but also letting others get close to us. To be open, to be Church, requires each of us to do a part.
