HIPAA policy will not allow a hospital to notify church, so a family member must take initiative. Anointing is also offered following Mass. An immediate response is not always possible, so please don t wait until a crisis occurs! Children's Liturgy of Word ~ celebrated during 9:30 & 11:30 Mass each for youngsters in Kindergarten through Grade 4. 3 SJB Concert Series On, October 7th at, popular ensemble The In-Between will return for a new program. This ensemble features classical soprano Jill Terhaar Lewis with jazz musicians Robert Lewis (saxophone) and Gerald Gregory (piano). The In-Between performs new compositions and arrangements by members of group that incorporate elements of classical chamber music with improvisations in jazz styles. In addition to favorite works by group, concert will include a world-premiere performance of a work by Charleston composer Maxx Bradley that is a setting of poetry by Charleston Poet Laureate Marcus Amaker. Bradley was commissioned to write piece specifically for ensemble As always, concerts are free, but donations are appreciated. All are Welcome! Children s Liturgy of Word We are looking for individuals (Adults and teens), who have a love of Gospel and our faith, a willingness to share with ors and give some service to Church. As a CLW Leaders and CLW Helpers, many have found that sharing ir faith with se wonderful youngsters has given m opportunity to learn with and through not only ir own children but also those of this parish. We know that we are not alone when we say our faith has taken on a much deeper, a more beautiful and meaningful dimension. The beauty lies in its simplicity. If you would like to be a part of this wonderful ministry join us for a training session, October 21st at Mass. On this date, you will go out with children during Mass and watch how Leader and Helper does CLW. Then after Mass re will be a meeting with Jan Antor to discuss. We look forward to seeing new faces. Pope Francis Invitation to Prayer he Holy Far has invited us T to pray Holy Rosary every day, during entire Marian month of October. He encourages us join in communion and in penitence, as people of God, in asking Our Blessed Mor and Saint Michael Archangel to protect Church from devil, who always seeks to separate us from God and from each or. He also asks us to conclude Rosary with ancient invocation Sub Tuum Praesidium, and with prayer to Saint Michael Archangel that he protect us and help us in struggle against evil (cf. Revelation 12, 7-12). Only prayer can defeat Satan. The Russian mystics and great saints of all traditions advised, in moments of spiritual turbulence, to shelter beneath mantle of Holy Mor of God pronouncing invocation: We fly to thy protection, O Holy Mor of God. Do not despise our petitions in our necessities, but deliver us always from all dangers, O Glorious and Blessed Virgin. 4 Property Development The second collection appeal next weekend will benefit our Parish Property Development Fund. Your generosity throughout year helps fund various projects and improvements to our property and buildings. Many people have already enjoyed convenience of our new meeting room in Madden Hall! This space is designed to handle a variety of electronic connections and applications that will allow easy access for faith formation, group meetings, scripture study, etc. The room can comfortably accommodate about 24 adults. This summer, we have already updated color scheme in Madden Hall, and have plans to update sound system, kitchen equipment and food setup. During past year, we have retro-fitted all lights in church from halogen to LEDs. We have converted space in chapel to provide a beautiful Reconciliation Room and Mass Sacristy. We are also upgrading lights in parking lot and landscaping throughout property. Please continue to generously support this collection so we can continue se important upgrades to our parish campus. Raise a Joyful Noise! Next, Contemporary Ensemble will sing during Mass! They have been practicing regularly during summer and plan to play at this Mass in regular rotation of Cycle D of Liturgical teams. We are also trying to recruit more youth and young adults to serve in various ministries during that Mass. If interested, please contact team leaders. The Ensemble wishes to recruit additional instrumentalists and vocalists of all ages. Remember: Your talent is a God-given gift to be shared with community! St. Francis of Assisi n October 6th, we celebrated O Feast of St. Francis of Assisi. We admire life of an ordinary man who was open to God's call to minister to least of his sisters and brors in an extraordinary way. His vision attracted ors to follow him, not only in his day but throughout centuries. Blessing of Pets lessed are you, Lord, Author of all living things. B On fifth and sixth days of creation, you called forth fish in sea, birds in air and animals on land. You gave human beings responsibility to name m and wisdom to know ir service. You inspired St. Francis in a special way to call animals his sisters and brors. From among all creatures, you have given us gift of our dear and beloved pets. We ask you to bless and watch over those whom you have entrusted to our care. Keep m safe, in good health, and guard m against harm. Through your gracious love, enable our pets to live according to your plan. May we praise you and thank you for your gifts in creation. Blessed are you, O Lord, and may all your creatures praise you, now and forever. ~ Amen. Food Pantry Our parish pantry is in need of nonperishable proteins. These items include, but are not limited to: SPAM, Vienna Sausages, Canned Tuna, Canned Chicken Breast, Chili with Meat and Soups containing meat. We could also use peanut butter and boxed milk such as Parmalat. Reusable cloth grocery bags are also a huge help. We greatly appreciate all of your assistance with our food pantry, please note we cannot accept any clothing (new or used), any outdated or expired items, furniture, medications, religious medals, Mass enrollments, novena booklets or or religious items. Donations may be brought to Madden Hall. Thank you for helping us help ors! Fr. John Dux is very grateful for all prayers, cards, letters and well-wishes during this period of extended illness. Msgr. Chet has assured him of our prayers and that he is always welcome to join us for liturgy anytime he regains enough strength. Cards to Fr. Dux may be sent to parish office. Scripture Reflection oday s readings give us a T wonderful refresher on Biblical origins of Sacrament of Marriage, going all way back to second chapter of Genesis in our First Reading, and n reinforced by Jesus in our Gospel Reading from St. Mark. Perhaps more than any or time in Christianity, marriage and family life are under attack right now. It is vital that we have a proper understanding of Church s beautiful and solid teachings in se areas. We call this type of knowledge, Formation and it is one of pillars of a stewardship way of life. Solid formation in faith not only strengns us in our own walk with Lord, but it allows us to pass on this knowledge to ors who are thirsting to know truth about human person, and it also arms us to defend our beliefs, when necessary. These readings also invite us to reflect on reality that we are to be good stewards of vocation Lord has entrusted to us. If I am married, do I recognize that my spouse and my marriage are a gift from God that must be nourished, developed and tended? This brings to mind stewardship aspect of Time. After time spent with God, my next priority of time should be for my spouse. Do I realize that at end of my life I will have to give an account to God for how I cared for gift of my spouse and marriage?
