3 Our Best Lent he best Lent is one in which we enter the season T wholeheartedly. All too often, people either take on too much or don t take on enough. The solution is to simplify our disciplines, focus our intentions and concentrate more clearly on our spiritual goals. To keep it simple this Lent, try the Plan : one sin, one add-in, one give-up: Concentrate or focus on one sin or fault that is getting in the way of your relationship with God and with others. If you need help in identifying which sin to concentrate on this year, ask God in prayer to reveal it to you. Also consider the 7 deadly sins which engender other sins or other vices. They are pride, greed, envy, wrath (anger), lust, gluttony and sloth (laziness). Add one positive activity that will deepen your prayer and spiritual life (especially if you think you are too busy to put anything more into an impossibly busy schedule!). Because we are all so busy, it s a good idea to not just pick an add in, but to schedule a regular time when you put it on your calendar so you don t forget. Some ideas include attend Mass in the middle of the week, spend an hour in adoration, read the bible, and/or get up early to pray. Deny yourself something you really like or are attached to. Just make sure it is something that lets you feel the deprivation and is at least a little bit challenging. Make it difficult but doable. ~ Excerpt from In Focus from Our Sunday Visitor LENTEN PRAYER POT Directions: Mold and form clay (available at craft stores) into a shallow bowl or pot. The pot will air-dry in 24 hours then can be painted. Optional: Use a toothpick to make designs or write the year. Each week during Lent, read the scripture, and work together to find the symbol of the prayer for that week Week I - A red heart to remind of God's love for us and that nothing can separate us from his love. Romans 8: 38 & 39 Week II - A small bean to remind us that we are growing in our relationship with God and that we should tend to it the way we would a growing plant. Colossians 1: Week III - An almond, an ancient symbol of patience, to remind us that God is patient with us and that we should be patient with others. Ephesians 4: 2 Week IV - A piece of bread to remind us to share with others. Hebrews 13: 16 Week V - A band aid to remind us to help those who are hurt or sad. I Thessalonians 5: 13b Holy Week - A piece of purple felt to remind us that Jesus is our King. Colossians 1: Easter - A small stone to remind us of the empty tomb and that Jesus is with us. Matthew 28: 1-8; Soup Supper & Stations of the Cross Fridays of Lent Supper begins at 6pm Stations at 7pm. Names below indicate the groups responsible as well as Leader of Stations: Parish volunteers needed for Soup on 4/11 3/21 - Hospitality - Jim Walter 3/28 - Faith Formation - Paul Antor 4/4 - KofC - Jim Walter 4/11 - Parish members - Harv Becker Lenten Order of Penitents ent has undergone many changes L during the past two thousand years of feasts and seasons. In addition to a period of personal penance and spiritual renewal, it has a strong communal dimension as expressed in the concept that we are Companions to one another on the life s Journey. It is also a time of final preparation for those who seek to enter the Church through the Easter Sacraments. In both cases, we realize that we are members of a larger church than just our local parish. By joining the Order of Penitents 2014, you express your desire to take this season seriously and invite the Church to accompany you through the support of our prayers and works of charity. There is NO deadline to enroll. Cards are available in the church Commons or on the parish website. Names are placed upon the altar throughout this holy season. A NOTE OF THANKS Thanks to everyone who helped with the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper in order to make it such a great night! We had a wonderful turnout and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, especially the children. We would like to thank the Hospitality Team, Event Team, Women s Club and several other Ministries and volunteers that made this event possible. Sincere THANKS to parishioners and friends for joining in our Mardi Gras celebration! LENTEN REMINDER OLD PALMS may be deposited in the box found at the bell tower entrance to the church Commons.
