Boucher, Grand Knight T he Christmas spirit was wonderfully expressed in our parish this past month. The Knights provided a free pancake breakfast for parish families who in turn donated $ for the Norton Energy Fund. Mark Bowditch organized a devoted group of Knights to cook pancakes and sausages for about one hundred and fifty parishioners, many of whom came with children to see Ed Beatty as Santa, handing out candy canes and small presents. In addition, parishioners responded generously to our white Christmas Bells on the Giving Tree by purchasing and wrapping nearly 100 presents for the homeless at Samaritan House in Taunton. Many thanks to Peter Pino and his wife for organizing, planning, preparing and hosting a festive Christmas Party in their home. As the year comes to an end, I want to thank you for all the time and effort that you have given to support our activities and to serve our community. In January, we will be running our annual Free Throw Competition on Monday, January 20 th, Martin Luther King Day. We need 12 volunteers to spend a few hours to manage youngsters performing in this event. This is a fun activity requiring no heavy lifting so please help out if you can. You can get additional details elsewhere in this newsletter. Please contact Tony Ippoliti or Norm Corriveau to let them know of your availability. Finally, I'd like to remind you that dues for the 2014 fraternal year are now due along with your survey of volunteer hours during the past year. Both have been mailed to you and a copy of the survey is included in this newsletter. The survey is critical to maintain our tax exempt, charitable status. Dues and surveys should be returned as soon as possible. I wish you all a happy, healthy and blessed new year. On J January 22 nd, the 41st March for Life will take place in Washington, D.C. It would be wonderful if we could all attend this to show our support for life; but, since that is not possible we can at least show our support here at home. The 9 A.M. Mass on January 22 nd will be offered for that intention. At 6 P.M. the Rosary at church will also be said with that intention. Please try to join other members of the Council at one of these events. If that is impossible, please pray at home with your family. The Pro-Life movement has made some gains to protect the unborn, the mentally dependent, and the elderly, but more needs to be done. Prayer can go a long way to help the cause. K of C Free-Throw Championship ur Saint Mary s Council is hosting a Basketball Free- O Throw Championship for boys and girls of ages 10 14, at the Parish Center on Monday, January 20 th, Registration begins at 5:00 pm, needing a copy of Birth Certificate as proof of age. The contest starts at 5:30 pm. Each age group of boys and girls are judged on 15 basketball freethrows. The winners of each age group (10) can advance to a District Contest, then to a Regional, and State competition. This is a fun competition. Invite children to participate. 4 St. Mary s Knights of Columbus Council January 2014 Page 4 Christmas for the Homeless n Monday, December 16, several O Knights continued a 17-year tradition by preparing a complete turkey dinner for the men and women at the Samaritan House in Taunton. Ed Beatty was the lead chef with able assistance from Ed Groden, Tony Medeiros, Mike Rota and Jay Boucher. Enough food was delivered to feed the 18 guests and support staff for two meals. In addition to the food, St. Mary s parishioners bought and wrapped a hundred presents for the men and women at the shelter. These presents were to be distributed on Christmas and for several months to those in need of clothing. The food and presents were delivered by Ed Beatty, Tony Medeiros, Jay Boucher, Mark Arruda and his son Lucas and daughter Emily. Sincere thanks to those who worked on December 16 and to all the Knights and parishioners who gave so generously to buy and wrap presents. The staff and clients of the Samaritan House expressed their gratitude and joy for what St. Mary s in Norton has done for them.

5 Family of the Month Knight of the Month Page 5 Volume 19, Issue 7 St. Mary s Knights of Columbus Council Knight of the Month / Family of the Month November 2013 eter has been an active Knight since P joining our council in 2002 serving as Recorder, Advocate, and for three years as Financial Secretary. For the past several years he has been a trustee and in the past year he has been Program Director. In November, Peter recruited help to set up the Parish Hall for St. Mary s Bazaar and, with his wife Marie, ran the liquor wheel at the Bazaar for a record amount. He ordered a box of children s coats from Supreme for distribution Peter Pino to needy children in Norton. He is always available to help out at our council's breakfasts and assisting with the periodic audits of our finances.. Peter always gives his council 100% when asked and is one of our council s most dependable members. Therefore, it is my great pleasure to present Peter Pino as the November 2013 Knight of the Month. eter Pino joined the Knights of Columbus P on April 30th, 2002 and served our St. Mary s Council as Recorder, Advocate, and Financial Secretary for three years. Now, he is serving as Trustee and is very valuable in checking out the semiannual audits as well as the monthly financial transactions. Peter volunteers most generously in most council events and attends all the meetings when possible. Peter also volunteered to be Program Director for this fraternal year. Peter married Marie in 1977, and together have four grown children. Marie volunteers The Peter Pino Family every other Friday at St. Mary s Bingo, putting in about ten hours a month. On the first weekend of November, Peter & Marie volunteered many hours for the success of our parish s Christmas Bazaar. This year, Peter and Marie are hosting our council s Christmas Party at their home on Saturday, December 7th, It is with great honor and pleasure to nominate the Peter Pino Family as the Family of the Month for November 2013.

6 St. Mary s Knights of Columbus Council January 2014 Page Annual Survey Brother Knights, I have the responsibility of reporting to the Supreme Council the total number of volunteer hours by our Council s members during all of I know well enough that our members do volunteer some of their time in helping others. Please find attached Form 1728A, the Individual Member Worksheet that I need from All of you, so that I can report what our Council s members have volunteered. The following may help you: CHURCH ACTIVITIES: Lay Eucharistic Ministry, Lectors, Parish Council, Parish Picnic, Bazaar, Prayer Ministry, Bingo, COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES: Cooking/Serving Luncheon for Norton Seniors, Cooking meal & Delivering Christmas Gifts to Homeless at Samaritan House, Breakfast with Santa, Tootsie Roll Drive at local stores, Italian Dinner in October, St. Pat s Dinner in March, COUNCIL ACTIVITIES: Meetings (Business, Planning, Committee), Car Wash, Wakes and/or Funerals, Preparing Appreciation Dinner, Gym break-down, FAMILY ACTIVITIES: Ballgames, Hockey Games, Family Outings, Helping elderly parents or relatives, Visiting at hospital or nursing home, YOUTH: Free-Throw Contest, Living Rosary in October, Coaching a team, Scouts, Please complete your individual worksheet and mail it to me: Street, Norton, MA Norm Corriveau, 69 Power
