Sat. during June Litanies After the am Mass For Reflection: DEVOTIONS It is only when we get to heaven - and getting to heaven is our purpose in life - that we shall see how our prayers, sincere and persevering, were answered by God. The first reading is taken from the Book of the Prophet Isaiah 56:1, 6-7. The theme of the prophet here is the call of the Gentiles to the service of the true God on the great day which is to come. The temple of that future messianic age will be a "house of prayer" for all peoples. The second reading is from the Letter of St. Paul to the Romans 11:13-15, In this reading Paul admits clearly that in the Christian Church is the fulfillment of all the hopes and promises made to Israel, yet this fulfillment of Judaism is composed of Gentiles as well as Israelites. Paul here calls himself the apostle to the Gentiles but still prays that the Israelite rejection of Jesus may one day be reversed. The Gospel is from St. Matthew 15: There is a lesson, a very necessary one, for all of us in this episode of Christ's public life. It is the necessity of perseverance in our prayers of petition. Prayer is an essential part of our Christian life, and the essential part of prayer is that of adoration and thanksgiving, but prayer of petition has a big part in our daily prayers. We have so many spiritual and temporal needs, needs which we cannot provide by ourselves. Christ himself has told us to ask Him for these needs: "ask and you shall receive." Do we ask with the fervor and perseverance which prove that we have "great faith"? That faith is the proof which Christ needs before He grants our requests. The Canaanite woman of whom we have just heard is for us an example of that deep-seated faith and trust in Christ's power and Christ's goodness. Even though He ignored her she continued to beseech Him, and when He answered with what seemed a direct refusal, her faith and trust did not waver. She answered His reason for refusal with another statement which showed that the granting of her petition would not in any way interfere with or impede His primary task, His mission to His father's chosen people. This was the proof of great faith which He required. He granted her request. If our prayer is sincere and persevering, we shall always get an answer, and one which is better than what we asked for.

5 Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time Memorial of the Queenship of Mary August 22nd With the certainty of faith we know that Jesus Christ is king in the full, literal, and absolute sense of the word; for He is true God and man. This does not, however, prevent Mary from sharing His royal prerogatives, though in a limited and analogous manner; for she was the Mother of Christ, and Christ is God; and she shared in the work of the divine Redeemer, in His struggles against enemies and in the triumph He won over them all. From this union with Christ the King she assuredly obtains so eminent a status that she stands high above all created things; and upon this same union with Christ is based that royal privilege enabling her to distribute the treasures of the kingdom of the divine Redeemer. And lastly, this same union with Christ is the fountain of the inexhaustible efficacy of her motherly intercession in the presence of the Son and of the Father. Without doubt, then, does our holy Virgin possess a dignity that far transcends all other creatures. In the eyes of her Son she takes precedence over everyone else. In order to help us understand the preeminence that the Mother of God enjoys over all creation, it would help to remember that from the first moment of her conception the holy Virgin was filled with such a plenitude of grace as to surpass the graces enhancing all the saints. Recall what our predecessor Pius IX, of blessed memory, wrote in his Bull Ineflabilis Deus: "More than all the angels and all the saints has God ineffable freely endowed Mary with the fullness of the heavenly gifts that abound in the divine treasury; and she, preserving herself ever immaculately clean from the slightest taint of sin, attained a fullness of innocence and holiness so great as to be unthinkable apart from God Himself, a fullness that no one other than God will ever possess." Spurred on by piety and faith, may we glory in being subject to the rule of the Virgin Mother of God; she bears the royal sceptre in her hand, while her heart is ever aflame with motherlove. Excerpted from Ad Caeli Reginam, Pius XII Missionary Cooperation Case for the Diocese of Issele-Uku,Nigeria Mission Presentation August 26th 27th A message from: Rev. Emmanuel Akalue. Issele-Uku Mission Speaker Parochial Administrator Our Lady of Grace, Palm Bay, Florida I will be presenting an Appeal on behalf of my home diocese. Located in Delta State, Nigeria, the Diocese of Issele-Uku is a rural (mission) diocese, with a population of about 2,254,303, and a Catholic population of about 1,018, 853. It was created in 1973 (barely after 3-4years after the Nigerian-Biafra Civil War). At its inception it had only 8 parishes; but with the special grace of God it has grown to 87 parishes, 14 independent stations and 36 Outstations and Mass Centers. Its local ordinary is Most Rev. Bishop Michael Elue. There are 221 Diocesan priests, 16 Monks, and 155 Religious Nuns from different congregations. Since its inception, the diocese has been making a steady progress. However, the necessary infrastructures (at Emmaus School, the Minor Seminary, Diocesan non-profit mini-health Facilities and clinics and our Mission Schools) are perennially inadequate. There is also need for the Support for the Diocesan Orphanages and Homes of the aged. Many faithful are predominantly petty traders and poor rural farmers barely able to meet the need for the subsistence level. Nevertheless, they are very committed mostly with time and talent for promoting the faith; many of our churches especially in more rural areas are constructed through direct community labor; parishioners carry pans on their heads supplying water, rocks and sand. In spite of our numerous needs, this appeal is mainly toward subsidizing the Training of Seminarians (future priests): 61 Major Seminarians and 291 Minor Seminarians. We still have lots of vocations; but have reversed our previous policy so as to admit only a few presently due to lack of funds. Besides, seminarians also help to subsidize their training by engaging in manual work such as farming in the seminary, using cutlasses, shovels and hoes to subsidize their training. Please, anything helps! Thank you. Candy Cane Bazaar St. Teresa s will be participating in the Candy Cane Bazaar initiated by Trinity Lutheran Church as a community wide event among the local Churches. People will go from Church to Church all on the same day to shop in our own bazaar of unique crafts and gifts, festive Christmas music and décor, delicious baked goods, door prizes and Silent Auction items. Anyone who would like to participate, please give name, phone/ address, and what you have to donate or sell for this event to the Gift Shop for Sister Yvonne. The Candy Cane Bazaar is on Saturday, November 11 th from 9 2 PM. Donations of non-perishable food items for the local food bank will also be greatly appreciated. 18th Annual Caregiver Forum Theme: A Cornucopia of Caregiving September 7-9, 2017 Mission Inn Resort & Club County Road 48 Howey Inn the Hills, FL This forum is offered for those who are taking care of a loved one. 6 Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time Isaiah 56:1, 6-7 A Place of Welcome People different from us can really make us uncomfortable. It is like we do not share the same language or rely on the same experiences. We have different circles of friends and different sources of trust. For many of us, the best way to deal with people different from us is to avoid them. Tolerance is good, but sometimes even tolerance masks prejudice. We tolerate those who are different as long as they act like we do. If they observe our customs, do not hang out in packs of their own kind, and visit our places with respect, we may accept them. More challenging is to let those who are different from us change our own way of thinking to let them open our minds to other possibilities and allow us to grow. God spoke a message of openness through the mouth of the prophet Isaiah. The God known as the originator of the covenant with the Israelites, the God who made them a special possession, offers a different view in this prophecy. God will bring foreigners to the holy mountain and make them joyful in its place of prayer. My house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples. Is your place of worship a place of welcome for those who are different? Written by Paul Turner. Copyright 2010, Resource Publications, Inc., , All rights reserved.
