First we started off with little to no rain, actually we been without rain for a while before summer even began, yet all the sudden we ve been blessed with BIG rain storms. Now we are plunged into the reality of the Texas August heat ;- ( Sometimes our journey, this pilgrimage of life we go through, is like the weather. In our life we experience times when we feel a draught and we turn to a time of diligent prayer and then we sense God s Spirit of blessing that waters our soul and refreshes us. I pray that you ve had sometimes this summer to gain a sense of blessing. I was able to get away a couple times this summer for a few days each time. Both times I was able to go to Kansas to visit with my mother. I was also able to visit with a few other family members and some old friends from high school as I attended my 40 th class reunion in Missouri. Now, I know you re saying to yourself, WOW, you re that old! My point with this message is that sometimes we have to get away and draw close to family and friends of old. We find this many times in the Bible such as Mary s visit to Elizabeth in the hill country of Judah. Mary had a much, much higher We are called to serve! calling than we do but at the same time we are blessed to have her as our Blessed Mother. This visit of Mary and our Lord with Elizabeth started a mission for John the Baptist as he leaped in his mother s womb. It s time for us to leap into action as a Council and Church in the world that doesn t know where it s going. Last weekend Joan and I had the blessing of attending the Midwest Catholic Family Conference in Wichita Kansas. We were able to receive a clear message about the work we need to do in our family, our Church and our community. You may have already read this month s Columbia magazine about the initiative of the Supreme Council of the Knights of Columbus on building up the Domestic Church. If you haven t had the chance to read it please do so. Our world is in GREAT NEED for this calling. It s a calling of building up the Sacramental Marriages and the family which are under attack. My prayer is that you will open your heart, listen and act open the calling to help our world see the need to turn to God. We can make a witness to our community through sharing together our core values of Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism. May God bless you and your Domestic Church!! God bless, Vivat Jesus! 2 Page 2 Warden/Council Director Other important events Brother knights I have been asked by Ray to accept and accepted the position of co-director. This will be tough for me but with your help and prayers we can improve our council. I wish you will view the team list and please prayerfully consider being a team leader or assistant team leader. We feel the teams are needed in our council to ensure our core values are upheld. The six teams are balanced as best we could to ensure participation in council activities such as meals and charity events. Please me if you would like to help out as a team leader or any issue you may have. Also, please take the time to say the Father McGivney Prayer below with our Council as the intention. Your brother knight, Jeremiah Dee God, our Father, protector of the poor and defender of the widow and orphan, you called your priest, Father Michael J. McGivney, to be an apostle of Christian family life and to lead the young to the generous service of their neighbor. Through the example of his life and virtue may we follow your Son, Jesus Christ, more closely, fulfilling his commandment of charity and building up his Body which is the Church. Let the inspiration of your servant prompt us to greater confidence in your love so that we may continue his work of caring for the needy and the outcast. We humbly ask that you glorify your venerable servant Father Michael J. McGivney on earth according to the design of your holy will. Through his intercession, grant the favor I now present our members of Council Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
