Pro Life Director 5 Back Cover A Fourth Degree Exemplification was held on October 20 at St. Paul Chong Hasang parish in Harker Heights, TX. Council 8156 had nine Brother Knights complete the requirements and participate in the ceremony to the patriotic arm of our order. The following brothers are now Sir Knights: Rayford Carter Mike Finke Micah Lawrence George Reynes Carl Disher Ronald Gallagher Dave Pietruszynski Juan Tavarez Julio Moreno Please congratulate our new Sir Knights and their worthy accomplishment. October was a busy month for our council. We celebrated Corporate Communion and honored our namesake, Christopher Columbus, with a lasagna dinner after Mass on October 13. Our first Family Movie Day was held at Westgate Regal Theater on October 14 for a showing of Frankenweenie and was enjoyed by all who attended. Thanks to Richard Munoz for organizing this family friendly activity. The Texas Alliance for Life dinner featuring keynote speaker David Barton was attended by many of our Knights and their families on October 17. Our council was well represented at this annual pro-life event. The KOCA hosted a fun-filled Fall Style Show on October 26 with models from our parish, including our very own runway star, Father Pat. Donations of canned goods as admission to the show benefitted the Abiding Love Food Pantry. On Saturday, October 27 Knights from our council served the community by painting Mary House as part of the St. Catherine Parish-wide Service Day. Participation is the lifeblood of our council. Being unable to participate in these events this past month due to my health, I realized how important fellowship and service is to me and my faith. Pope Benedict XVI, speaking about the Year of Faith, stated that the door of faith (Acts14:27) is always open for us, ushering us into the life of communion with God and offering entry into his Church. The Knights of Columbus is but one door to opening a life of faith and service to our parish and our community. Our council offers many opportunities for participation. We each need to take our own steps to exercise the first lesson of our order - charity. Get involved and put your faith in action. Who is this Wolf Man? See Page 4 On November 7 we will host our Memorial Mass and Dinner in honor of our deceased brother Knights. Invitations have been sent to widows of the council to attend. We hope to see all of you there. And don t forget the Corn Roast on November 9 in Johnson Hall. A total list of November upcoming events is included in the newsletter. I would like to thank everyone for your thoughts, prayers, phone calls, cards, meals, and visits while I am undergoing treatments. No one man can keep our council strong. I appreciate all of your support and look forward to being able to participate in council activities with you.

But what happens once you reach that goal? You ve got free time to pursue your interests, visit friends and family and relax. It s a beautiful thing indeed. You ve now entered the de-accumulation phase. You will start to spend down the assets you have accumulated during your working years. Remember: a 60-year-old man has a 20% chance of making it to 95! 3 Volume 13, Issue 11 Page 3 Membership Director Eddie Mazurek We continue to see promising men coming to our information meetings. Membership is everyone s responsibility. Surely we all know just ONE good Catholic gentleman that would benefit from belonging to the largest Catholic organization. Please invite someone to our info meeting on the third Sunday of the month (next one is November 18th) at 7:00 PM. We need good, active members and normally that is the type that wants to join us. We are all extremely busy, but as I mentioned last month, are we to busy to become better fathers and better Catholics?? Speaking of good members, perhaps you personally know someone who has not attended a meeting or function for quite some time now. Please reach out to them and ask them to come join us. If they can t (or don t want to) attend a meeting, invite them to one of our many socials. We have several coming up including our corn roast, Christmas party, etc. Please reach out to them. One of the drawbacks of being a large council is that sometimes people will fall through the cracks and, if not reached out to, have a tendency to walk away. We really don t want that to happen. We all joined for a reason, let s not anyone fall through the crack. Let s keep up with our friends Eddie Mazurek emazu5@gmail.com Knight and Family of the Month for October Knight Jim Hogg Jim Hogg has been selected as Knight of the Month for October. Jim faithfully serves St. Catherine as an usher. He also serves the council as an Inside Guard. In that capacity he has taken on a project of photographing brother Knights at meetings so that with the aid of the photos we can more easily remember each brother s name. Recently, Jim has been busy keeping freezers of our brother Knights stocked with venison. Keep up the great work Jim! Family Mike and Criselda Torres Miguel (Mike) and Criselda Torres have been selected as October Family of the Month for Council Despite having a special needs child, Mike and Criselda are active at St. Catherine. Mike, serving our country as an active service Army officer, is always available to help in projects taken on by our council. Criselda does a great job as she cares and nurtures their three girls- Myriel, Isabela and Natalia. They can always be counted on to attend Sunday Mass as a family. It is for these reasons that our council proudly recognizes the family of Mike and Criselda Torres as Family of the Month. Congratulations Mike and Criselda!

I would not write about it, if it were not the most important issue facing us now and in the future. Yes, the economy is very important but as we have more and more, so called, legal abortions, we are losing more and more of our children (55 million +), that could have or can be, important to our economic presence and future. Here is an example how we look at life outside the womb and in the womb: A FEW WEEKS AGO A TEN YEAR OLD YOUNG GIRL WAS KIDNAPPED AND RECENTLY THEY FOUND HER DECAPITATED BODY IN A OPEN LOT IN COLORADO. THIS IS A TRAGEDY OF THE HIGHEST DEGREE. BUT MANY IN OUR SOCIETY DO NOT THINK THAT THE BABY IN THE WOMB, WHEN PULLED APART AND DECAPITATED BY AN ABORTIONIST DOCTOR, IS NOT A TRAGEDY OF THE HIGHEST DEGREE, TOO! When is the time for us to act like human beings following the WORK AND THE WORD of JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD! THE 5TH COMMANDMENT: THOU SHALL NOT KILL! (Brothers, one for all and all for one)
