1 FACTS OF FAITH Faith Lutheran Church 8265 Winton Road Cincinnati, Ohio Phone JANUARY 2016 Fax Pastor Schultz fasterpastor THE DEADLINE for the Facts of Faith is the 2 nd Monday of each month. Articles for next month are due to the church office on Monday, February 8 th, 2016 "Faith Lutheran Church is committed to nurturing and protecting our youngest members by providing a safe environment for children." * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Dear Brothers and Sisters, THANK YOU, MARLENE! Special thanks and appreciation go to a dear friend of our congregation, Marlene Deidesheimer, who has served as the Secretary of Faith Lutheran for 38 years! After nearly four decades, she has decided to retire, and while we will miss her a great deal, we wish her all the best and pray for a happy retirement! She has been the right hand of four pastors in her time at FLC, and her presence will certainly be missed. Yet, we give thanks to God for her gifts and dedication to her work, and ask the Lord to bless her and keep her in retirement! Just for fun, here are some fun facts about Marlene s time with Faith Lutheran: Marlene s first year at Faith was the year STAR WARS was released (the first one.) Marlene s last year at Faith is the year the STAR WARS EPISODE VII is released. A gallon of gasoline was 65 cents in Pastor Schieman was pastor of FLC when Marlene started. In 1977, a new BMW 320i cost less than $8,000. When Marlene started, Rocky won Best Picture at the Academy Awards. Other 77 movies include Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Smokey and the Bandit, Saturday Night Fever and Annie Hall. The first Atari 2600 video game system was released in 1977.
2 Marlene began working here the same year Elvis Presley died. The New York City Blackout lasted for 25 hours in television hits included The Love Boat, CHIPS, Eight is Enough, Three s Company and Soap. The best thing about 1977 is that Marlene started her work with FLC, 38 years later we say, Well done, good and faithful servant! Pastor Paul+ A couple of months ago I announced that I would retire the end of this year. Well the time has come. So with a heavy heart and a lot of sadness it is time to give up the job that I have loved for many years. I have met so many friends who I am most thankful for. Faith's congregation has treated me like one of their own. This will be quite an adjustment for my husband and I. But I will be able to spend more time with family, especially our grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They are so precious to us! I want to thank everyone for all their cards, notes, thoughts and prayers. It has been a wonderful blessing to have worked all these years at Faith. Please keep me in your prayers and I will keep you in mine. Love Always, Marlene HAPPY BIRTHDAY to our members who are celebrating birthdays in January: 1 Ellen Duescher 21 Shawn Williams 4 Allan Winters 23 Aldona Zibas 6 Stephanie Martin 28 Harrison Ogle 9 Jen Ogle 29 Randy Royal 11 Dale Johnson 30 Anna Goetz Jimin Seo Logan Goetz 14 Rose Schroeder Roxanne Johnson 19 Alissa Wuorinen 31 Erin Emmert 20 Caitlyn Hammond HAPPY ANNIVERSARY to our members who are celebrating wedding anniversaries in January: John & JoAnn Roberts
