1 The Challenger The true meaning of Love Christ died for us. (John 3:16) FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH, HARRISON NOVEMBER, 2014 FBC VOL. 59 NO. 11 NOVEMBER 2nd THE LORD S SUPPER Morning Worship Service MEMBERSHIP ORIENTATION CLASS 9:00 a.m. Fellowship Hall If you would like to become a Church Member or if you would just like to know more about how we do what we are called to do, please join Pastor Rob Davis. NOVEMBER 27th Wishing you a Harvest of Joy With Family and Friends... Remembering the Goodness of God! The Church Office & ROC will be closed for the Thanksgiving Holiday on Thursday & Friday, November 27 & 28 The Women s Ministry of FBCH is collecting Operation Christmas Child shoebox gifts. They have a table set up in the atrium. These shoe boxes provide Christmas gifts to children around the world. God uses these simple gifts to bring such great joy to every boy and girl, but the most important thing of all is that every child has the opportunity to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Samaritan s Purse shares the love of Jesus and the true meaning of Christmas. Please help the Women s Ministry in collecting gifts for these boxes, and pray that God will prepare the hearts of the children who receive them to experience His love, that they will hear the Gospel and ask to receive Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. Thank you for helping make an eternal difference in the lives of these precious children. Please turn in your filled shoebox by November 17.

2 THE.ROB.BLOG I am thankful 2014 edition...for good people...you know the type. Big hearts, Small egos. Great faith. Every church needs a few and I am blessed with more than my share....for my Jonesy. I SO enjoy being on this adventure with her. My ministry pales in comparison to hers. Seriously, Her impact on people s lives for Christ is amazing. Her heart is always open to the one in great need or the one that just needs an encouraging word. She did a great job with our boys especially considering the Davis DNA hampering her work....for distance. Oh, not between me and family (i.e. grandbaby) because that s tough. I mean like the fact that there are no Krispy Kreme/Baskin Robbins/Dunkin Doughnut stores in our town. Moderation is not a spiritual gift which is good cause I m not good at it. (And no, I am not going to listen to your reminder about self-control being a fruit of the Spirit. Go write your own blog.)...for the aforementioned grandbaby. Evelyn is the best thing EVER! I now have an excuse for my obnoxious behavior. I m a Grandparent!!! And I love the way she calls Jonesy Memaw and Jonesy calls her moonpie cause Evelyn is so nummy nummy. (Some of you will get the joke and reference. Others will have to Google it.) Anyway, I m SO in love!!...for America. We are still the destination of choice for those seeking a better life. I am a bit concerned, however, that our nation is becoming the land of the free and the home of the blasé. We ought to be about the business of taking a visible and vocal stand about things that are on the verge of being out of control. (See Houston mayor subpoenas pastors sermons. Absolutely frightening.) for my children. (2 boys, 2 girls) I am very glad that the boys have good women for their mates. My double blessing is that they all know Jesus and want to live for Him. for FBCH. I love to tell people where I m privileged to pastor. My great joy is to recount the stories of how God has led and blessed and how you have believed. This county seat, first church is, by the judgment of many who are acquainted with you, more progressive than most and more giving than many. God did an outstanding thing for the Davises when He sent us here. for stents. I ve got three of them and so far so good. A hearty thank you goes to the cardiologist type who invented them. I am able to run and play like the other big kids. ( hearty get it?) for my mom and dad. Ruth and David are just fun to hang with. I wish I could see them more. Oh, and Mom: If this preaching gig goes south I will get to spend a LOT of time with you you know, with me living in your house and all. for a great church staff. It is such a joy to work with people you actually like. They do good work for all the right reasons. for my Savior. It is no stretch to say that it is only His grace that has allowed me to be where I am doing what I do. He loves me just because. And that s the best love there is. Your thinking thankfully pastor... Rob The AWANA GRAND PRIX was OCTOBER 8th and had 26 racing cars entered this year. FAST CARS, SLEEK CARS, SPORTS CARS, MOVIE THEME CARS... Creativity was in every race!

3 What s happening in FBCH Student Ministry? On Wednesday nights in October we finished a 4 week series is called Some Assembly Required, and started looking at spiritual gifts. This involved students doing a spiritual gifts survey and then after that we started going over why we have different gifts; covering each gift with an explanation for the student to understand. Unfortunately in October we had our hayride and bonfire rained out, but the plan is to reschedule for a date in November. On November 7-9 the FBCH Student Ministry is participating in our annual Fall Retreat. This year it will be held at Camp Siloam and we are partnering with NABA as well as the Washington Madison Association. The theme this year is The Harvest and we are focusing on sending students out as workers in the harvest for lost souls. Please be in prayer for life change in each of the students lives during this great event. Reminder: on Wednesday, November 26 th there are not children s or youth activities at FBC Harrison due to the Thanksgiving holiday. ROC Ministry VOLUNTEERS NEEDED Friday: 6:30-8:30am Or let us know if you are willing and able to be on the sub list UPWARD BASKETBALL Our Harrison Upward Basketball and Cheerleading program is starting back up in November with registrations and evaluations taking place. Please be planning ahead to volunteer when the season starts up in January. And if you re available for evaluation nights we need volunteers for that, too. (Evaluations: November 18 and 20 from 6:00-8:00pm) To register your child you can go to harrisonupward.org or pick up a brochure at the FBCH office. A New Young Adult Sunday School Class is starting on November 2. This class is for those young adults who are 18 to 24 years old and will be taught by Larry Phillips. We are excited about getting this class going! Please pray with Larry and I as we reach out to this age group. If you know some young adults who aren t attending a Bible study, let them know about our new group and encourage them to come. You might let us know who they are so we can encourage them too. Quarterly Adult Teacher s Meeting November 16 is the date we have set for our first Quarterly Adult Sunday School Teacher s Meeting! We will be meeting right after morning worship in the Fellowship Hall for lunch and our meeting will follow. Each Adult Teacher and his/her family are invited to come eat with us, but I need to know a head count as soon as possible. So, please make your plans and get back in touch with me as soon as you can. You can call the church office or me at lance.read@fbcharrison.org.
