We will take an offering for the Good Samaritan Fund. This fund, which is administered with the assistance of the City Police Department and City Clerk s office, aids those in need while traveling through our city, or people in need of shelter. Millions of shoeboxes are collected during National Collection Week. Before these special gifts can bring hope and joy to children around the world, each one has to be carefully inspected and made ready for overseas shipment by volunteers like you. This year we have a wonderful opportunity to volunteer at the Operation Christmas Child Processing Center in Atlanta, GA. It is a privilege to serve at the Processing Center. 5 SOMETHING TO PONDER Don Pardo ( ) might not be a name people quickly recognize, but his voice is unmistakable. His career as an announcer in radio and television spanned more than half a century. With the lone exception of Season 7, Pardo was the only announcer Saturday Night Live ever had until his death in August of For 38 seasons he announced the names of television s biggest stars and they felt uniquely validated when his rich baritone voice introduced them to the audience. Countless others would recognize his voice as the announcer for The Price is Right and Jeopardy. Pardo s pathway to success began with a simple expression of gratitude. He and a friend traveled to New York City to visit the NBC studios in Patrick Kelly, the supervisor of announcers, set up a studio tour for Pardo and his buddy. Before leaving, Pardo stopped by to personally thank Kelly for arranging the tour. That simple gesture of appreciation prompted a job offer that launched a Hall of Fame career. I want to personally thank the Barron WOM Group for organizing this event. THANKSGIVING COMMUNITY SERVICE Join me tonight at 6:00 p.m. here at FBC for our annual Community Thanksgiving Service. Skip Davis, from Lakeview Baptist Church will be the speaker. Afterwards we will have food and fellowship downstairs. We will not have Wednesday night activities, this week, so families can prepare for Thanksgiving. Next Sunday, November 27, I will be preaching a message The Second Mile from The Joshua Code. To give an offering is to give above our tithe to support other ministry endeavors not completely covered in the general fund of our church. Here at FBCO, we have numerous designated funds to which we can all contribute during the course of a year. During the months of October, November and December we will place emphasis on the Lottie Moon Offering - International Mission emphasis, Nepal Offering - A mission team goes once a year from FBC, Vision Continues - Facility improvements and projects and Hope House - a local mission that provides support for people in Blount County.
