1 K I R K P A T R I C K M E M O R I A L C O M M U N I T Y C H U R C H The Church Mouse Church Office: (208) Cell: (208) Ministers: The Congregation Pastor: Rev. David Carlson David s Cell: (208) THE CHURCH MOUSE Newsletter articles for August are due no later than July 21st. Thanks! Editor July 2017 Notes From June Session Meeting Submitted by: Jody Iaderosa, Clerk of Session Everyone in the congregation is the OUTREACH COMMITTEE Once upon a time, KMCC depended upon the congregation to serve as our outreach. We did not consider this a committee job, the responsibility of a few persons. At some point, in good Presbyterian fashion, it did become a committee and.how has that worked out? The session committee will henceforth be CHURCH LIFE. Outreach will no longer be only session members. It is being returned to the congregation, where it should be. We are all responsible to invite people to join us for special events, worship and projects. We are all responsible to follow up on people who visit our church. We do recognize the few who do regularly call and visit, and deeply appreciate them. Thank you all who do reach out. Music in the Gazebo is July 13 and Karaoke is July 27. We need better publicity. When you get an poster please make some copies and hand them out or put them up around town. MIG: Mike Cramer brings his guitar and easy listening style to the next MIG. If you don t remember Mike, you probably know his wife, Carolyn Seely, daughter of Pres and Katherine. She grew up in our church. Mike writes many of his songs and we are sure you will enjoy this program. All of the programs are 7:00. No pre-show this month. Taco dinners are available for $5 starting at 6:00. Karaoke: We may still be learning how to use the new karaoke set, but everyone is invited to come try it out. Music starts at 7:00, but we will be listening from tables while we eat our supper. That s right! WE ARE HAVING A POT LUCK PICNIC ON July 27, 7:00. Please bring a BBQ friendly side dish if you are part of our congregation. Sounds like fun. Building and Grounds The GOOD news is --- work on the Community House overhang will begin soon. The contractors are ready to go and may even be started before you get this newsletter. The BAD news is---nothing seemed to be holding it to the building. Much more work will be required to stabilize and strengthen the structure, which will require widening the overhang and inserting connections into the building. The insurance company paid us $3,000, but the cost of replacement will be around $15,000. Sprucing up for 2020 when our building will be 100 years old: Work on the overhang should begin the first week in July. The coffee bar in the narthex could start within a month. Plans are to be presented to the committee this week (June 18) and work will start as soon as the plan is approved. The beautiful new front door has the donations but the contractor has many more jobs ahead of us. Both of these project are funded by donations. Continued on next page...

2 Money Making Projects We are going to have some fun Some creative money making ideas were batted around. Brad Watson volunteered to take on the project, but ideas from the congregation are still very welcome. We hope to have one fund raiser on October 22 as the annual Stewardship Dinner, and may have another in January or February. Thinking about New Activities David suggested we have movie night in the sanctuary during the winter months. Films with morality themes could be shown and discussed. Should we continue with the Getting to Know You monthly programs on the 3 rd Sunday after worship? Would you come to short term classes at the church? How about secular subjects such as world religions, support/ education groups dealing with depression or suicide? We have seemed to have little interest in Bible study. Was it due to the time (5:30)? Please let session members know what you want from your church. Please, Please, Please, Get your Schedule on the Calendar Meetings, dinners, events! Get them on the calendar at the back of the church and to Barb. Linda needs to know when buildings are free to rent. A new school year calendar goes up on the back bulletin board July 1. There have been a few snafus this year due to more than one group planning to use the same space. Please help us improve communication by being sure we have the information. July Dates 4th of July Celebration: 9am in the Gazebo Music in the Gazebo: July 13th, see page 4 Sunshine Cupboard: July 17th 3-4:30pm Session Meeting: July 18th 7pm Preschool Camp: July 24th-28th 9-12noon Potluck Picnic & Karaoke in the Gazebo: July 27th, 7pm Please check the calendar included in this newsletter, and if you want to add something, please call Barb. The extra week makes a big difference. Profit to the church women is used for church and community needs. Carol Walsh will be chairman, and is on two committees and does funeral dinners for Deacons. Louise Duspiva serves on two committees and substitutes. By counting them twice and Karen 3x, we need 12 or 13 new people. They have to be able to come every time, unless they have an emergency.
