1 PHONE: (972) Derek Stone Day June 27, September 13, 2004 Derek Stone Day June 27, 1986 September 13, 2004 Derek Stone Day, beloved son, brother and friend, died September 13, 2004, his life cut short at the age of 18. Derek was loved by all who knew him for his warm heart, his clever mind and his desire to help other people. He was born June 27, 1986 during an emergency C-section operation that saved his life. Derek was a high-energy youngster who played and swam and laughed, but he also loved quietly singing Hosanna with his Mom and Dad. He lived his first year in Arlington, Texas, but lived the rest of his life in Allen, Texas. His childhood was summarized by his announcement when he was 4, Daddy, I love my life! I ll be happy all my whole life! In elementary school, he loved learning and his teachers, playing baseball and football, and fighting with his sister. At the age of 15, he accepted Christ as his personal savior and was baptized. As a teenager, the quickness of his wit was matched only by the speed of his fingers and expertise on the guitar. Derek was going to study the business of music in college. He was known for the way children and pets were drawn to him, his hilarious sense of humor and his dread of getting up early. Derek was dearly loved by his parents, his sisters, his grandparents, his aunts, his uncles, and his friends. His life-long confidante was his sister, Destiny. He is survived by his mother, Heather Herndon Wright and her husband Randolph, of Lucas, Texas; father Darrell Day and his wife, Ginger, of Richardson, Texas; sisters Destiny Herndon, of Allen and Marissa Day, of Richardson; brother Samuel Tackett of Allen; grandparents, Russell and Patricia Day, of Columbia, Illinois, and Hugh and Betty Herndon of Richardson; greatgrandmother, Lillie Read of Richardson; nephew, Aiden Herndon of Allen; aunts, Cara Day of Mahomet, IL, Stephanie Herndon George of Plano, TX, Laurel Herndon Wilson of Winston-Salem, NC, Cindy Herndon Johnson of Willis, TX; and uncles, Todd Day of Valmeyer, IL and Michael W. George Sr. of Plano. A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 19, at First Baptist Church of Allen, 201 East McDermott, Allen, Texas, with Pastor Randy Bailey officiating. Funeral arrangements will be directed by Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made on behalf of the memory of Derek Day in the name of either Darrell Day or Heather Wright, at Woodforest National Bank, 425 Coit Walmart, Plano, TX Memorials

2 I recall chatting with Darrell on many occasions about Derek-without fail, his eyes would get a happy gleam to them and you could tell, before he even began speaking, that he loved his son. And still does and always will. Derek was an exceptional person and will be greatly missed. JEFF WEADOCK, OCTOBER 12, 2004 I meet Derek on a couple of occasions. Once when he came to Las Vegas with his father. Derek was a very out going young man full of fire. I got to spend a lot of time with Derek during a company ski trip. Derek was very adventurous and very curious about the opposite sex. We spent a few hour talking about women. I don't think I helped him out as much as he helped me. Spending that weekend with Derek, It was like I was 16 again hanging out with a good friend having fun. Derek did always seem to hold on to that child like spirit. If not the whole world it helped change mine. I will miss Derek. I wish is family my deepest regrets with there lose. Just know that he was and is still loved in our hearts and minds. How many parents lose children before they find the Lord and are in agony. 3 you and your family. My memories include a time when Darrell came to a Scrabble tourney carrying a "not quite a toddler" boy for all to see. Then, what seemed like such a very brief time later, you came again accompanied by a pre-teen who bore a striking resembleance, prompting to me to think to myself, "Darrell in a time warp." Please accept my sincerest condolences on the tragic loss of your son's "blink of an eye" life. BOND, SEPTEMBER 26, 2004 I didn't know Derek but I do know his dad a bit and I am blest to know that despite the untimely loss, Derek is in the presence of God, thanks to his relationship with Christ as Lord and Savior and his love for people. He was a great kid, always gave it his best, and made me laugh every day! While standing in the hall minding traffic and such, Derek would stand next to me with his arms crossed...just like mine. Derek was a very talented guitar player, that's true, but what I remember most about him were his impeccable manners and cheerful demeanor. Of Chris' friends, Derek was, by far, the most respectful.
