1 PHONE: (972) Roy M. Pierce December 18, January 15, 2008 Roy M. Pierce, age 74, of Plano, Texas, passed away January 15, 2008 in Plano. Roy was born December 18, 1933 in Hornell, New York, to Dr. Hugh M. and Deehra (Tefft) Pierce. He married Barbara Vaughan on October 24, 1959 in Morrisonville, New York. Roy was a graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. He also earned a Master s of Business Administration from the University of Texas in Dallas. Roy was Director of Global Standards and Policy Development at the Xerox Corporation where he retired after 35 years of service. He also earned two patents while at Xerox. Roy attended Richardson Church of the Nazarene. He was a Sunday School teacher for over thirty years. He also taught a bible study for teens in his home. Roy proudly served in the United States Navy from He is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughters, Rhonda Harper and her husband, Todd of Allen, Texas and Darlene Norris and her husband, Steve of Plano, Texas; grandchildren, Tyler Harper, Hailey Harper, and Esther Wise; brother, Doug Pierce; and numerous other loving relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter, Nicole Wise and sister, Lorna George. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, January 17, 2008, at Turrentine- Jackson-Morrow Chapel in McKinney, Texas with Pastor Robert Snodgrass officiating. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Wednesday evening beginning at 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorials Happy Birthday, darling. 2 Roy was a genuine person with a zest for life. (Remember the Corvette stories?) When I was a young girl, I would visit Rochester and tell people that one day I would work for Xerox and fly in airplanes to go around the country. Wound up that working for Roy, I was able to see a lot of the world of imaging science and also the "real world" from a global company perspective. Roy managed a good group of people well and he carried a lot of responsibility for a good company. His employees felt respected. He contributed to the Office Document Architecture (ODA) standards which were advanced and powerful! Roy enjoyed life and we all must to do the same, for that is what he would want. He was my mentor in developing international standards. He was always helpful and knowledgeable, but also a lot of fun to work with. He was dearly missed when he retired from the standards group. We kept in touch by for many years afterwards.
